Position Overview
This position is a professional licensed Physical Therapy Assistant position which provides Assistant services to the Physical Therapists and leadership to the Techs of the Physical Therapy Department. This is a full time position working Monday through Friday,
Essential Job Functions
Follows the Plan of Care as directed by the Physical Therapist and within state guidelines, assessing the needs and implementing the treatment plan.
Administers physical therapy program including training and oversight of PT tech staff.
Supervises and administers treatment to convalescing patients including muscle testing, grading the strength and weakness of different muscles, massage and muscle reeducation, guided exercise for weakened muscles, and underwater treatment.
Helps patients adjust to physical limitations and works with the patient to maximize their physical capabilities. Helps guide patients and informs Therapist of status changes to assure attainment of goals.
Submits timely, complete clinical records, documenting services rendered and observations about patient’s progress.
Attends staffing and case conferences.
Participates in educational meetings, both as instructor and attendee.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
Graduation from a School of Physical Therapy accredited by the American Physical Therapy Association.
Current Physical Therapist Assistant license from the Louisiana Physical Therapy Board
Five years of practical physical therapy assistant experience with a preference in orthopedics, sports medicine and musculoskeletal disciplines.
Considerable knowledge of the principles, methods, materials, and equipment of physical therapy.
Considerable knowledge of possible hazards to patients during treatment and of necessary precautionary measures.
Ability to interpret correctly patients’ reactions to all types of physical therapy treatment.
Ability to maintain adequate work reports and to prepare periodic reports of treatments, proposals for expansion of treatment, and other as indicated by department director.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with physical therapy students, subordinates, professional employees, and patients.
Other Skills/Abilities
Computer skills with emphasis in Microsoft Office Programs.
Organization and time management.
Oral and written communications.
Knowledge of team building and dynamics.
