Position Overview
Responsible for the overall coordination and marketing of Pulmonary Rehabilitation; Assists Program Director with administration and management of Pulmonary Rehabilitation and ensures high quality, high utilization and adherence to both DHC and Hospital Policies and Procedures and Plans. Designs and implements a variety of exercise treatments focusing on individualized needs with the specific objective of breathing retraining, increasing endurance, improved functionality and fostering independence in caring for self.
Essential Job Functions
· Delivers direct respiratory care to patients following physician's orders.
· Administers medical gases and aerosolized medications as per physician orders.
· Performs other respiratory care as needed and prescribed by medical staff including, but not limited to adult care and pediatric care.
· Checks and maintains respiratory therapy equipment when on duty.
· Assists in the development and maintenance of the facilities respiratory program.
· Will give in-services to nursing staff as needed with new developments and the annual respiratory education.
· Obtain blood samples for blood gas analysis
· Performs duties as assigned
Requirements
· Degree of completion of an accredited school of Respiratory Therapist; valid Louisiana State license.
· BLS/ACLS/PALS certifications
· Good communication skills
· Clinical experience in respiratory care techniques
Other Skills/Abilities
· Good working knowledge of basic sciences related to respiratory care.
· Knowledge of normal and abnormal pathology and pathophysiology related to cardiopulmonary system.
· Assist in Quality reporting by completing quarterly respiratory chart audits and completing a report for the quality meeting.
· Provide education to patient and family when treatments are provided, disease processes and disease management when applicable.
· Able to set up and maintain CPAP and BiPAP devices when patients bring their machines to use while in hospital.
· Demonstrates rapid recognition of subtle changes in patient status and takes appropriate action while maintaining a professional composure.
· Strong attention to details and highly organized.
Training Recommended
· As required to maintain current licensure.
· Annual facility modules.
