  • Responsibilities

    Job Summary: Under the direction of the Business Office Manager, the Biller is responsible for daily postings of charges and filing medical claims to insurance carriers for Physical Therapy and Pharmacy.

    Essential Job Functions

    Enters facility fee charges and diagnostic codes for procedures performed in the hospital daily by utilizing attestation sheets from Health Information Management.

    Work with HIM department regarding charging and billing questions and monitoring attestation sheet accuracy.

    Handles all aspects of billing primary claims.

    Bills Physical Therapy claims monthly.

    Responsible for all billing reports including but not limited to: Ready to bill, Approved and Claims with missing information reports.

    Work Submissions Index, Audit reports and rejected claims from audit reports daily through TruBridge.

    Files hard copy claims and with medical records as required

    Requests invoices as needed and submits with claim forms.

    Requests adjustments of accounts as necessary.

    Notes accounts regarding actions on claims/account.

    Monitors and notifies pertinent employees and manager when patterns present due to mistakes in the registration process and account information that cause edits and non-transmittal of claims.

    Completes requests for billing records when needed.

    Assists other billers and collectors with questions regarding the billing process and issues that arise.

    Assists in answering questions from patients by phone or correspondence regarding their accounts; assists with patients that present in the Business Office.

    Confidentiality

    o Maintains as confidential all observed or acquired information regarding the patient, the patient’s history, surgical procedure, and perioperative experience.

    o Maintains inter-staff communication as confidential when advised.

    Miscellaneous

    Assists in the collection of data for continuing quality improvement.

    Participates in self –evaluation and annual review of employee performance.

    Suggests practice and procedural improvements.

    Participates in weekly staff meetings.

    Performs other duties as assigned.

    Requirements

    High School diploma or GED required.

    Post-Secondary education preferred

    5 years experience.

    Billing experience preferred.

    CPSI experience preferred.

    Microsoft Office knowledge preferred.

    Other Skills/Abilities

    Requires excellent written and verbal communication skills to communicate effectively with individuals at all levels of the organization.

    Must be able to work under general supervision.

    Must have a professional and mature demeanor.

    Must be able to work in a fast-paced department and handle multiple tasks, work with interruptions and deal effectively with confidential information.

    Strong telephone etiquette.

    Computer literacy required.

    Knowledge of medical terminology.

    Dependable attendance is essential.

    Able to prioritize multiple tasks.

    Strong organizational skills.
