Medical Assistant Pediatric Ophthalmology-Full or Part Time
If you are interested in the medical field we have a great opportunity for you at our pediatric ophthalmology practice that is located in Beverly, MA. We are looking for someone who loves to learn and enjoys working with kids. Experience not necessary, we will provide on the job training. Typical Physical Demands: Requires prolonged standing, walking, some bending, stooping and stretching. Requires excellent communication skills and a keen understanding of patients with sensory impairment. Must be able to express a caring attitude while performing the tasks required with accuracy and efficiency. Requires normal range of hearing and eye sight to perform necessary testing and reporting of findings. Example of Duties: Greets patient and introduces self prior to eye exam. Explains to patient what patient should expect from technician's work up and from the MDs/ODs. Completes a detailed patient history which includes: past medical history (systemic and ocular), family medical history (systemic and ocular) medication history (systemic and ocular) and the chief complaint (the reason for the visit). Checks patient's uncorrected (when applicable) and corrected age appropriate visual acuity for distance and near. This may be Snellen linear or Jaeger acuity, or LEA/HOTV charts either with linear testing, crowding bars or single optotypes as appropriate based on age and development. We can teach you how to do grating acuity (Teller acuity) if not already familiar with this. Neutralizes eye glasses by either manual lensometry or automated lensometry. Ensures that patient's chart is put up in a timely fashion after technician encounter. Responsible for care, maintenance and stocking of assigned room(s). Attends required staff and educational meetings as requested. Maintains strictest confidentiality. Performs related work as required. Helps with administrative duties when needed Performance Requirements: Working knowledge of basic anatomy and physiology of the eye. Excellent communication skills with parents and children and an understanding of differing levels of ability in our patient population based on age and development.
