Job Description
We are a small business that specializes in niche insurance products. We are seeking a Controller to become an integral part of our team! You will oversee financial activities and accounting personnel as well as identify areas of improvement to increase efficiency. Our current controller is moving on to spend more time with her children after being with us for 8 years. We are looking for someone who is eager to learn new systems and help guide management on a daily basis. If you are looking for a place to have real input this job is for you. We are currently in a growth cycle so additional accounting personnel will be hired before the end of 2021. Need flexibility? We are more than willing to provide flexibility to the right candidate.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Oversee and coordinate all financial activities and personnel
- Set controls and budgets to mitigate risk and increase return on investments
- Standardize and maintain a system of accounting records and techniques
- Conduct internal audits to assess financial status
- Ensure compliance with federal and state regulations
- Serve as primary contact for external auditors
- Receive, record, and bank cash, checks, and vouchers
- Record and review Surplus Lines Tax
- Assist in yearend close
- Assist in compiling records for company audit
- Initiate and process ACH’s/Wires
- Bank contact
- Process and record payroll
- Classify, record, and summarize numerical and financial data to compile and keep financial records, using journals and ledgers or computers.
- Prepare and send out monthly remittance statements to clients.
- Record, balance and deposit payments, donations and employee reimbursements
- Track receivables and issues monthly aging report
- Process accounts payable, including debiting appropriate accounts. Also includes tracking expenditures.
- Vendor invoice recording, submit for payment
- Reconcile bank accounts
- Report to management regarding the finances of establishment
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Previous experience in accounting management, insurance or other related fields
- Fundamental knowledge of GAAP
- Strong leadership qualities
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Deadline and detail-oriented
