Job Description
Spectator Publishing Co. is an independent, student-run company that publishes print and digital news and information products covering and serving the Columbia University community. In addition, Spectator Publishing Co., a non-profit corporation, organizes live events and distributes advertising and sponsorship-supported applications serving the Columbia University community. Spectator Publishing Co. also has a board of alumni trustees that help provide oversight and continuity.
We’re looking for a multifaceted business manager to help build and retain relationships with advertising agencies and national clients to support our student-run media organization, which brings in six-figure annual revenue. On a day-to-day basis, you will be selling advertising and sponsorship to premier advertisers who want to reach the Columbia University community. You will also help sell sponsorships for Spectator’s event series and burgeoning direct-to-consumer ad products. The role includes responsibility for customer satisfaction post-sale, including the orchestration of delivery. The ideal candidate must believe in Spectator’s mission serving the Columbia and Morningside Heights community with a print circulation of 4,000 and 150,000 average monthly readers. The ideal candidate must also be excited about the power and learning opportunity of student journalism, and feel comfortable working at a student-run company with a sales team of students. The candidate will report directly to the student Publisher, who oversees the business operations of the company, and will work alongside the Revenue Director, and professional accountant.
This is a 16 hours/week, part-time position. Compensation will be a combination of an hourly salary and commission. This position is in-person.
