Job Summary: Under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN), Nurse Manager, or Physician, the Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) provides safe, effective, and compassionate nursing care to patients. The LPN assists in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care while ensuring compliance with the facility’s policies, procedures, and regulatory standards.
Qualifications:
Graduate of an accredited Practical Nursing Program — Required
Current Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) license in California — Required
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association — Required
IV Certification (if applicable per state regulations) — Required
Minimum of one (1) year of clinical experience in an acute care, long-term care, or outpatient setting — Preferred
Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English — bilingual preferred
Strong interpersonal and organizational skills
Duties and Responsibilities:
Patient Care Activities:
Provide direct patient care under the supervision of an RN or physician.
Administer medications and treatments as ordered, including oral, intramuscular, subcutaneous, and intravenous routes (per state scope of practice).
Monitor and record patient vital signs, weights, and intake/output.
Collect specimens for laboratory analysis; perform simple lab tests as directed.
Perform wound care, dressing changes, and catheter care according to protocols.
Assist with patient mobility, positioning, and transfers using proper body mechanics.
Observe and report changes in patient condition promptly to the supervising RN or physician.
Document all care provided accurately in the medical record in compliance with facility policies.
Provide patient and family education within scope of practice, reinforcing teaching provided by the RN or physician.
Clinical Support Duties:
Prepare and maintain equipment and supplies for patient care procedures.
Restock patient care areas and assist with supply inventory.
Participate in infection prevention measures, including hand hygiene, cleaning, and proper disposal of supplies.
Ensure safe operation of equipment; promptly report malfunctions or concerns.
Maintain a clean and safe work environment.
Professional Responsibilities:
Collaborate with the interdisciplinary healthcare team to promote quality patient care.
Adhere to ethical and legal standards of nursing practice.
Protect patient rights and confidentiality in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
Participate in staff meetings, in-service training, and continuing education activities to maintain competencies and licensure.
Assist in orienting and mentoring new staff, as assigned.
