Software Engineering Enterprise Monitoring Principal
Location: Dallas or Chicago Hybrid Financial Industry
Summary
This role demands an individual capable of exercising substantial independent judgment to explore, plan, and deploy a complex enterprise monitoring system. The successful candidate will identify improvement opportunities, advise on resource allocation, and collaborate with solution architects to devise and implement system enhancements or remedies.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Interpret strategic directives from mid and senior management into actionable technical plans.
Oversee project progress, implementing corrective measures for projects that are off-schedule or exceed budget.
Act as a subject matter expert in supporting third-party tools, such as Splunk.
Offer high-level technical guidance and mentoring to team members with less experience.
Tackle and resolve intricate support issues across both non-production and production environments.
Understand Cloud Native applications on Kubernetes within AWS, including monitoring through exposed APIs.
Support production and development teams in identifying and resolving environment issues using log monitors or APM profiling.
Develop and maintain documentation for troubleshooting and procedural guidelines related to enterprise monitoring systems.
Craft complex automation scripts for system installation, configuration, or upgrade using tools like Jenkins, Ansible, and Terraform.
Fulfill additional responsibilities as required.

Skilled in scripting or coding with APIs and a deep understanding of management and monitoring technologies.
Knowledgeable in Internet/Web technologies, ITIL best practices, network technologies, AWS logging (CloudTrail, CloudWatch, VPC Flow Logs), SNMP monitoring/reporting, CI/CD tools (Artifactory, Jenkins, GIT), cloud-native applications with Terraform, microservices support technologies, encryption (SSL/TLS, PKI), and software technology security controls.
Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
At least 10 years of experience in a similar role, with a focus on distributed, multi-platform environments.
Minimum of 3 years dedicated to cloud native applications and technical project management.
Certificates or Licenses
AWS cloud certification is preferred
