  • Responsibilities

    Sphere is currently looking for a Mechanical Engineering Lead in the Burnaby area.

    The Mechanical Engineering Lead will be responsible for development of the mechanical engineering team and delivery of some of our most important projects. You will be responsible for communication with the team, our clients, and external stakeholders to ensure successful delivery of our projects and find new opportunities for our team. These responsibilities will include:

    • Act as the key contact on specific projects for clients, stakeholders, and sub-consultants.
    • Support the development of a growth strategy for the engineering team.
    • Connect with existing and new clients to develop new opportunities for the team.
    • Develop proposals and responses to requests from new and existing clients.
    • Assist in the pursuit of new clients.
    • Collaborate with the team to grow our team and deliver projects.

    You will also be responsible for managing project budgets, schedules, permitting activities, procurement activities and contracts for specific projects where you are designated the project manager. Other responsibilities include but are not limited to:

    • Manage resources on multiple projects, including employees, sub-consultants, and contractors.
    • Provide technical oversight and guidance to the engineering team, including technical review of engineering deliverables. You will be required to take professional responsibility for some technical documents.
    • Providing guidance and technical support to designers and drafters, which includes setting priorities for scope of work, budgets and schedules and reviewing design.
    • Supporting the development of cost estimates.
    • Preparing procurement documentation for engineering services, construction services and materials.
    • Developing technical specifications in accordance with client and project requirements
    • Developing permit applications, managing permit conditions, and managing and liaising with permitting authorities to achieve permit issue.
    • Managing procurement from RFP to tender process management to ensuring goods meet specification and are delivered on time and within budget.
    • Liaising between our client’s engineering and operations groups and the team
    • Conducting site surveys/inspections and providing technical support to field personnel.
    • Managing construction contracts on behalf of our clients.

    Qualifications

    • Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
    • Licensed Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in British Columbia.
    • 12+ years of mechanical engineering experience in natural gas utilities, pipelines, piping, and facilities projects.
    • 5+ years in a leadership role.
    • Valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License.
