    At Spire Studios we empower world-class and diverse creative and technical talent from all mediums to entertain global audiences through animated feature films with heartfelt storytelling, captivating worlds, and inspiring characters.

    Key to our vision is developing a real time enabled pipeline that brings intimacy back to the animation process while pushing the creative envelope. Our team has worked on many of the earliest and most successful 3D animated films, and have experienced firsthand the exponential increase in visual complexity and crew sizes as narrative appetite and audience expectations have grown. GPU accelerated rendering and game engines unlock new workflows that can upend long held assumptions underpinning the assembly line approach of legacy studios.

    THE JOB 

    To make an impact in this effort, we are looking for a unique individual whose creative and technical expertise includes high-end CG production and game engines. Someone who is equally comfortable working with an art director or story artist as they are with a graphics or simulation programmer. Most importantly, our ideal candidate is someone who refuses to settle for the status quo!

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Achieve the highest quality, unique and stylized look of environments in context lighting and compositions within Unreal Engine 5.

    • Collaborate with character and environment designers on asset look development, UV’s, textures, and materials.

    • Execute shot setup with quality lighting. Render and composite linear content shots from start to finish to help set the mood and tell the story.

    • Standardize and improve development processes to streamline efficiencies in production with industry-standard content creation tools and Unreal Engine.

    • Partner with the art and engineering teams to facilitate communication and collaboration, while ensuring that goals and best practices for both are represented.

    • Take direction from supervisors as well as demonstrate autonomy and time management.

    • Ability to produce variations of designs and concepts during exploration stages.

    • Follow emerging trends in advancing DCC’s and real time ecosystems and evaluate their impact on Spire’s pipeline and workflows.

    REQUIREMENTS

    • 2+ years of experience as a surfacing or look development artist for high-end visual FX, animation production, or console games is preferred. 

    • Experience with Unreal Engine 5 is preferred. 

    • Working knowledge of the content creation tools and processes involved in real-time 3D asset production.

    • Superior artistic eye for lighting, color, composition and detail.

    • A deep understanding of physically based rendering and real world lighting techniques.

    • Strong team player and communication skills with creative and technical partners to ensure project and studio cohesiveness. 

    • Organization skills and proactiveness to take high-level team direction and turn it into an execution plan.
