    Title: Lab Aide The Sports Medicine Research and Testing Laboratory (SMRTL) is seeking highly motivated individuals to be part of our laboratory team testing saliva samples for the novel coronavirus which causes COVID-19. SMRTL'S primary mission is analyzing biological specimens for performance enhancing substances from athletes competing at all levels of sport. Additionally, SMRTL analyzes for the novel coronavirus through its subsidiary, Sports Drug Testing Laboratory, focusing on samples from the sports world. This position is a part-time, day-time position working in the corona virus testing group. The hours are approximately 8am to 2pm, 4 days per week, and the work schedule includes weekends. Job Summary: The Lab Aide position is considered an entry level position and is responsible for such duties as receiving and disposing of samples; entering sample information into the LIMS; preparation of samples for PCR analysis and operation of sample preparation robotics. The candidate must be able to follow Standard Operating Procedures and work in a CLIA certified and ISO17025 accredited regulatory environment. The duties include, but are not limited to: - Receipt of saliva samples and entry of sample information into the Laboratory Information Management System - Preparing sample aliquots - Storage and disposal of samples - Preparation of sample aliquots for PCR analysis - Operation of sample preparation robotics Qualifications: Minimum Requirements - Associate degree in a scientific field. A minimum of 3 years relevant laboratory experience may be equivalent to a Associate degree for this position. - Familiarity with laboratory terminology, procedures and techniques such as sample aliquoting, pipetting, extraction, etc. - Understanding of the scientific background underlying the analytical techniques used by the laboratory. - Understanding of appropriate precautions for handling biological specimens. - Familiarity or experience with Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS). - Ability to follow a standard operating procedure unassisted. - Good organizational skills and the ability to maintain accurate records. - Ability to communicate clearly and effectively. - Must be able to work in a team environment.
