The role of the Patient Coordinator is to orient and educate patients and their families by meeting them; explaining the role of the patient care coordinator; initiating the care plan; providing educational information in conjunction with direct care providers related to treatments; procedures, medications and continuing care requirements. The Patient Coordinator must be organized, possess strong phone and communication skills, and must be proficient with a computer. The Patient Coordinator must always be patient, understanding and be a pleasant and welcoming presence in the office.
Experience is a plus, but not required.
JOB SPECIFIC EXPECTATIONS:
- Maintains quality service by establishing and enforcing organization standards.
- Handles incoming phone calls and directs inquiries appropriately.
- Verifies all insurance eligibility, receives all insurance co-pay payments and posts amounts paid to patient accounts.
- Works with the Dentist and Assistants to ensure that scheduling proceeds in an effective manner.
- Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
- Maintains patient care database by entering new information as it becomes available; verifying findings and reports and entering into the computer database. Backs up data in the computer database.
- Schedule and confirm patient appointments.
- Directs arriving patients to waiting areas, and updates frequently on expected waiting times.
- Protects self, co-workers, and patients by following policies and procedures to prevent the spread of bloodborne and/or airborne diseases.
- Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; benchmarking state-of-the-art practices; and participating in professional organizational related societies.
