The News Movement (TNM) is a recently launched media company created to provide engaging news content on key social media platforms and our own digital channels. We believe fact-based independent journalism can be delivered differently, in ways that are innovative and exciting.

We're creating a newsroom for the future, building a dynamic and diverse editorial team to deliver quality journalism for the mobile generation. And we're growing fast.

    WHO WE'RE LOOKING FOR…

We're seeking a skilled and industrious producer/creator to join our team, with a focus on creating daily social video content for TNM and our news partners. If you're ambitious, motivated, and are as comfortable in front of a camera as you are in Premiere, this might be the job for you.

You, our ideal candidate, thrive at the intersection of reported journalism and social media.

You have a background in multimedia production, preferably in a newsroom or publishing environment, with an emphasis on mobile video formats. You're extremely online and fluent in TikTok, Instagram, Snapchat, and YouTube. Your news judgment is impeccable and you know how to take just-the-facts reportage and make it into engaging social video.

This role requires the ability to work independently while also coordinating with stakeholders across multiple editorial teams. You're solutions-oriented and creative about getting where we need to go; adaptability is in your DNA. You'll be working closely with our partners at major news outlets so strong communication skills and a collaborative mindset are a must.

Hard skills are just as important. You should know how to write a short script for social formats. You can shoot your own standups. Your post-production work is clean. In this role, you'll be expected to execute videos from start to finish — and do it on deadline, too. Self-starters with solid time management skills will thrive.

    • Highly organized and deadline-driven
    • Experienced with all facets of social video production, soup to nuts
    • Comfortable and authentic on camera (no broadcast news vibes, please)
    • Able to work both independently and across multiple teams
    • Well-versed in journalistic standards and ethics
    • Immersed in social media and internet culture
    • Able to receive and incorporate feedback
    • An excellent communicator and collaborator
    • Takes their work seriously, but not themselves — a sense of humor never hurts

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Develop and produce vertical video news content for TNM and its news partners, with an initial focus on TikTok and YouTube Shorts
    • End-to-end editorial execution: scripting, shooting, editing, publishing
    • Work with the Executive Editor and news partners to determine daily story selection
    • Collaborate with reporters, producers, and editors across multiple teams to align on both short and long term coverage priorities
    • Deliver scripts and cuts to appropriate managers for review, and make changes as needed
    • Create and maintain a weekly and monthly editorial calendar
    • Adhere to production timelines and meet deadlines

    • Excellent post-production skills: you've mastered Premiere and Photoshop, and you're not too shabby with After-Effects, either
    • Competent with lighting, cameras, mics, green screens — all the odds and ends of production for native social formats
    • Ability write short scripts that are clear, accurate, and precise
    • Knowledge of news and current events
    • Demonstrated understanding of journalistic standards, practices, and ethics
