Job Summary
As a Senior Controls Engineer, you will lead the design, development, and implementation of sophisticated control systems for our machinery. This hands-on role involves automating processes, integrating electrical, mechanical, and software elements, and spearheading Industry 4.0 initiatives. Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop electrical and pneumatic control systems for sanding machines, ensuring compliance with company standards and customer needs.
- Program PLCs and HMIs, including operator interfaces, tailored to machine functions and performance goals.
- Demonstrate expertise in UL508A standards for control panel design and safety.
- Partner with mechanical engineers to incorporate hardware sensing and feedback mechanisms.
- Lead system integration, including architecture planning and troubleshooting.
- Assist field service teams with diagnostics and resolution of control system issues.
- Implement Industry 4.0 technologies to improve automation, data collection, and productivity.
- Support on-site machine startups, testing, and commissioning when required.
- Mentor and lead a team of Controls Engineers.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field.
- At least 5 years of experience in industrial controls engineering.
- Minimum 1 year of experience leading controls engineering professionals.
- Proficiency in PLC programming (e.g., Allen-Bradley, Siemens) and HMI development.
- Solid knowledge of electrical schematics, pneumatic systems, and machine automation.
- Experience with AutoCAD Electrical and/or SolidWorks Electrical.
- Familiarity with networking protocols, sensors, and industrial communication systems.
- Background in developing custom products across various industries.
- Understanding of Industry 4.0 principles, including IoT integration and data analytics.
- Strong problem-solving, communication, and project management abilities.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in the metal finishing or sanding equipment sector.
- Knowledge of robotics, vision systems, or advanced motion control.
- Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams and guide junior engineers.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to sit, stand, and move between workstations for prolonged periods.
- Manual dexterity for operating computers, tools, and testing equipment.
- Visual acuity for inspecting wiring, screens, and components, including close-up work and color differentiation.
- Capacity to occasionally lift and carry items up to 25 pounds.
- Adherence to safety protocols in manufacturing and industrial settings.
- Willingness for occasional travel to customer sites or project locations.
