    The Welding Instructor provides expert instruction and hands-on training in welding fundamentals, techniques, and applications. As part of a collaborative team, the instructor will support students in achieving technical proficiency aligned with industry standards to prepare them for successful employment in welding and fabrication careers.

    Responsibilities include evening instruction, curriculum development, safety oversight, student mentoring, industry outreach, program planning, scheduling, and equipment maintenance. The instructor will engage regularly with employers to ensure skill alignment, provide technical assistance, and participate actively in student recruitment and support. This position requires or will require eligibility for an Idaho Career-Technical Postsecondary teaching credential.

    Working under the guidance of the Program Manager, the instructor will use practical and effective teaching methods, develop meaningful assessments, and foster supportive relationships with students. Institutional service and ongoing professional development are expected to help promote student success both academically and personally.

    Instructional responsibilities occur primarily in the evenings and may include hybrid or online components. The standard workload includes 37.5 hours per week with at least 5 posted office hours. Professionalism, collaboration, and a dedication to workforce readiness are central to this role.

    Duties and Responsibilities


    • Teach welding courses such as:
      • SMAW, GMAW, GTAW, FCAW
      • Safety and Welding Theory
      • Blueprint reading, metallurgy, and fabrication
      • Thermal cutting, sanitary welding, and robotic welding systems
    • Deliver instruction in evening sessions using various modalities: in-person, hybrid, and online.
    • Maintain course materials, grading, and communication within the Canvas learning management system.
    • Design and adapt curriculum aligned with AWS and other applicable industry certifications.
    • Complete First Camp! or equivalent training to meet credential requirements.
    • Coordinate with peers and Program Manager to align course outcomes and best practices.
    • Support curriculum review, program evaluation, and accreditation processes.
    • Manage instructional tools and equipment safely and effectively.
    • Monitor and support student progress, retention, and placement through collaboration with employers.
    • Stay current with professional development and maintain relevant certifications.
    • Build positive relationships with local industry partners and promote the program through recruiting events.
    • Complete administrative responsibilities including grade submission, syllabi uploads, and evaluations.
    • Contribute to campus initiatives through committee service and shared governance.
    • Perform other related duties as assigned.

    Minimum Qualifications

    • Substantial full-time industry experience in welding OR equivalent postsecondary education
    • Eligible to obtain an Idaho CTE teaching credential
    • Experience training or instructing in a shop or technical setting preferred
    • Familiarity with safety standards and OSHA requirements
    • Strong communication, time management, and organizational skills

    Preferred Skills and Experience


    • Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Welding Technology or closely related field
    • AWS, CWI certifications or other industry-recognized welding credentials
    • Proficiency with instructional technology and teaching software
    • Experience using CNC plasma tables, welding simulators, or robotic welding systems
    • Skilled in blueprint reading, metal properties, and precision measurement
    • Experience supporting adult learners in hands-on environments
    • Personable, dependable, and able to build lasting professional relationships

    Working Conditions


    • Evening instruction typically runs until 9 PM and may include occasional travel for site visits or professional training. Instructor must be able to lift up to 50 lbs and safely operate welding equipment and tools in classrooms and lab settings.

    **Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills & Abilities): **

    Minimum

    • B.S. in discipline such as Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Systems Engineering, Software Engineering.
    • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a similar role
    • Proven firmware or embedded software development experience.
    • Familiar with firmware principles, theories, concepts, techniques and architecture.
    • Embedded system hardware knowledge and development environment familiarity is required.
    • Proficient in embedded algorithm development per medical device standards.
    • Strong coding skills using C/C++.
    • Familiarity with ARM Cortex microprocessors (M4 and M7)
    • Knowledge and experience with digital signal processing and motor control algorithms is strongly desired.
    • Experience developing firmware for serial interfaces: SPI, I2C, UART and CAN bus

    · Experienced in embedded system design, testing and debugging and familiar with embedded firmware development environments.

    • Strong experience using emulators/debuggers to develop/debug embedded system firmware applications.

    Preferred:

    • M.S. in disciplines such as Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Systems Engineering, Software Engineering.
    • 5 years of experience in federally regulated software development
    • State Machine design patterns and RTOS experience
    • Proficient with Python language
    • Strong problem solving and analytical skills.
    • Ability to work independently and with team members from various disciplines, e.g., hardware, mechanical, quality, regulatory, etc.
    • Team player with effective verbal and written communication skills.
    • Technical writing skills, ability to develop reports for technology development, document software
    • Medical device development experience and IEC62304 and related IEC standard familiarity
    • Requirements, design and architecture, and review/update software development lifecycle procedures.
    • Ability to coordinate multiple projects simultaneously
    • Experience with Agile/Scrum methodology

    **Compensation & Total Rewards: **

    Estimated Starting Salary Range: $133,000 - $146,000
