Our Senior Veterinary Technicians are leaders within the practice, providing advanced medical care while supporting the growth and development of the entire team.

    Position Overview

    The Senior Veterinary Technician plays a key role in the hospital’s daily operations by combining advanced technical expertise with leadership. This position supports veterinarians in providing top-quality medical care, oversees treatment protocols, mentors newer team members, and helps ensure efficiency and excellence across all patient care areas.

    Key Responsibilities

    Clinical & Technical Excellence

    Perform advanced nursing skills including anesthesia induction/monitoring, surgical assistance, dental procedures, radiology, laboratory testing, and emergency triage.

    Administer medications, treatments, and fluid therapy as directed by veterinarians.

    Ensure accurate medical recordkeeping and treatment tracking.

    Maintain high standards of patient care, safety, and comfort.

    Leadership & Mentorship

    Provide guidance, training, and feedback to veterinary technicians and assistants.

    Act as a role model for professionalism, teamwork, and client service.

    Assist in onboarding and developing new staff members.

    Support the Practice Administrator and Lead Technician in maintaining efficient workflow.

    Client Communication & Education

    Communicate clearly and compassionately with clients regarding treatment plans, home care, and preventive medicine.

    Assist veterinarians in explaining medical procedures and options.

    Foster strong client relationships and trust through excellent service.

    Operational Support

    Monitor equipment, supplies, and inventory to ensure readiness and efficiency.

    Uphold OSHA, AAHA, and Fear Free® standards in patient care and safety.

    Participate in quality improvement and hospital initiatives.

    Qualifications

    Certified Veterinary Technician (CVT) preferred but not required.

    Minimum 3+ years of veterinary experience with demonstrated advanced technical skills.

    Proficiency in anesthesia, dentistry, surgery, and emergency care.

    Strong organizational, communication, and leadership abilities.

    Commitment to continuous learning and professional development.

    Physical Requirements

    Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs unassisted.

    Ability to stand, walk, bend, and kneel for extended periods.

    Comfortable handling and restraining animals of various sizes and temperaments.
