    TRIO–SSS TUTORS/SUPPLEMENTAL INSTRUCTORS

     

    PART-TIME, CAREER PLAN – TEMPORARY CONTINGENT, GRANT FUNDED

     

    POSITIONS (ENGLISH)

    Contracted services beginning 8/19/19 through 12/13/19 and beginning 01/13/20 through 5/08/20. Renewable each semester contingent upon grant funding. Position is contracted for a specified limited term contingent upon receipt of grant funds or scope and satisfactory performance. Persons employed in such capacity shall be subject to review and shall have no claim to continued employment beyond the specific term established for that position.

    HOURS: 0-24 hours per week

    PAY RATE: $15.00 per hour

    REPORTS TO: TRiO - Director

    THE TRIO-SSS TUTORS/SUPPLEMENTAL INSTRUCTORS WILL:

    1. Communicate effectively and efficiently with TRIO SSS Staff with regard to student performance, need and other pertinent information;
    2. Provide individual and group tutoring outside of the supplemental instruction sessions to SSS participants through scheduled appointments and drop-in services;
    3. Work one-on-one or in small groups to help students understand the subject matter more clearly and make progress in their classes;
    4. Maintain records as required;
    5. Interact with faculty and project staff to develop and provide appropriate supplemental information;
    6. Make recommendations for products and services to enhance participant’s academic goal attainment and success;
    7. Help students build the essential skills necessary in order for the student to be successful in both remedial courses and their holistic college experience;

     

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    1. Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university. Expertise in the following subject areas: English, Math (through MTH 112 at SC4 i.e. Trigonometry and Intermediate Algebra), and Accountancy;
    2. Strong written, oral communication and presentation skills;
    3. Experience in tutorial programs and supplemental instruction, or teaching certifications in subject matter areas desirable; experience working with computers for supplemental learning exercises;
    4. Experience with college students or community college students preferred;
    5. Preference for those from backgrounds similar to the SSS population;
    6. Preference for those able to work Monday through Thursday or at least twice per week 8:30 am-4:30 p.m.

     

    Required Skills Required Experience

  • Qualifications
    • Must be a careful, patient, non-aggressive driver with an excellent driving record
    • Must be able to pass a DOT physical and drug test, and back screen per DOT regulations as required
    • Clean driving record and insurable by the Company insurance carrier
    • Felony records will be reviewed closely
    • Must be able to drive evenings and weekends as needed
    • Ability to be on time for all assignments
    • Keen awareness to details, which includes accurate driver logs, road hazards, other drivers and surroundings
    • Exceptional customer service and ability to act in a courteous and professional manner at all times, regardless of the circumstances
    • Ability to maintain a professional appearance
    • Proficient with reading maps and GPS, searching for locations and/or directions on-line when necessary, and correctly following directions
    • Computer literate and able to learn and efficiently use different software programs to include electronic logs, and automatic on board recording devices
    • Speak, read and write English fluently
    • Excellent communication skills
