    Position Summary:

    The Associate Director of Gift Planning reports to the Director of Gift Planning. The primary responsibility is to assist the Director of Gift Planning in deliberate efforts to seek and secure major/planned gifts for St. John’s University.

     

    Responsibilities:

    • Work with the Director of Gift Planning to devise and implement a strategic plan for planned giving efforts, including outreach to external constituencies (alumni, friends, parents) as well as internal partners (schools/colleges, departments).
    • Serve as Gift Planning’s liaison with the University’s Finance, General Counsel, and Advancement Services units to manage trust and estate administration and related matters.
    • Assist in the identification, qualification, engagement, and cultivation of prospects and donors of income producing planned gifts (i.e. Charitable Remainder Trusts and Charitable Gift Annuities), future bequests, and outright gifts (such as those coming from a Donor-Advised fund) in support of the University’s highest priorities.
    • Support the Director of Gift Planning as well as the five (5) school-based Directors of Development to develop proposals and related materials (i.e. gift calculations; illustrations; recognition opportunities) appropriate to a prospect’s interest and financial capacity.
    • Work under the direction of and in collaboration with the Director of Gift Planning to provide day-to-day management of the planned giving unit and related staff.
    • Manage the day-to-day administration and operation of planned giving marketing and stewardship efforts.
    • Perform other related duties as assigned and participate in other projects as required.

     

    Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s/advanced degree preferred in a business discipline.
    • 7-10 years of experience in a higher education setting with demonstrated experience in project management.
    • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written skills.
    • Leadership and sales/marketing skills to recruit and market to and manage relationships with individuals and groups.
    • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
    • Ability to take initiative.
    • Creativity and careful attention to detail are required.
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team/larger group.
    • Knowledge of Banner, Raiser’s Edge, or similar fundraising platform required.
    • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, Power Point, Outlook/e-mail programs.
