    Description:

    The Chief Data Officer is looking for a Junior Data Engineer to join the Office of the Provost to assist with a variety of data related activities. This role will primarily be responsible for managing and developing data sets and products along with the quality and cleanliness of the data lake and warehouse. Further, the Junior Data Engineer will assist with the upkeep and quality of the universities Data Lake and Data Warehouse. The Junior Data Engineer will also help assist with in the identification, analysis, and dissemination of business data and logic into usable tables, views, and products to be consumed by the institution.

    Responsibilities include but not limited to:

    Use an analytical mind to assist with in translating business questions and concerns into views and data sets for entire university. Own and assist with the development of data sets and data stores that will be key in the development of data products and reports.

    Assist with the synthesis of critical data in a format that is immediately useful to answering specific questions or improving operational performance. Explore/analyze data and work with Research Engineers, other Data Engineers, and Product Managers to understand behaviors, spot system defects, and benchmark our ability to serve our students.

    Using past experiences, deep dive into our data assets to discover and fix anomalies, build meaningful views and data sets that would provide insight and valuable decisions for senior member of the team. Assist with the development of SQL stored procedures, views, jobs and other data products that will feed our dashboards and other data products.

    Qualifications:

    • A bachelor’s degree in data science, statistics, or a closely related field.
    • A minimum of 2 years' experience with hands-on SQL Development.
    • Ability to collect, analyze and present data in a cohesive manner.
    • Ability to work collaboratively with other team members, staff, administrators, and other stakeholders.
    • Strong and effective organizational, time management, and interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
    • Be able to master higher education-specific data sets.
    • Advanced knowledge of data lake and warehouse environments.
    • Ability to perform analyses on complex and disparate data sets.
    • Fluency with data visualization platforms such as Tableau, Power BI or other data presentation layer tools.
    • Database Administration (Oracle, MS SQL, NoSQL) platforms.
    • Knowledge of Snowflake and Snowflake development a big plus.
    • Advanced level SQL development skills.
    • A keen eye for details and aptitude for working with multiple types of data.

    In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the annual/hourly salary range for this position is $74,300 - $90,000 . St. John’s University considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.

    This position may be relocated to any of St. John’s University’s physical locations at any time.
