    SPECIFIC JOB TITLE:  Assistant Director of Graduate Admission 

    REPORTS TO: Associate Director of Graduate Admission 

    CAMPUS:  Queens 

     

    JOB SUMMARY:  

    Based out of the Queens campus and reporting to the Associate Director of Graduate Admission, the Assistant Director will assist in the development and carrying out of an effective recruitment strategy consistent with the strategic plan to meet enrollment and institutional goals. The Assistant Director is responsible for recruiting and enrolling prospective graduate students and managing.  

     

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 

    The Assistant Director is expected to: 

    • Develop and maintain an in-depth knowledge of the University and it’s Graduate programs of study and effectively articulate these programs to prospective graduate students in a manner consistent with the University’s strategic plan. 
    • Develop a strategic recruitment plan inclusive of recruitment events (both virtual and physical), information sessions and chats, on campus events, and daily interactions with students. 
    • Effectively communicate with prospective graduate students in a timely manner to address inquiries and questions about the Graduate Admission process and assist students through the admission funnel. 
    • Serve as a lead graduate recruiter, reviewing historical data relating to suspects, inquiries, applications, admits, and deposits to strengthen existing relationships and identify areas of opportunity aligned with the University’s strategic enrollment goals.  
    • Serve as the primary point of contact for faculty and department heads. This includes, but is not limited to maintaining a constant point of communication between Graduate Admission and the academic department(s) to discuss admission updates, provide data, discuss, website changes, and address specific student inquiries. 
    • Review and decision admission applications for multiple colleges and programs in a timely fashion to meet application through enrollment targets. Consistently review funnel conversion rates to remain on target to meet enrollment objectives. 
    • Work with colleagues across the university to assist prospective students in resolving enrollment related issues and concerns. 
    • Support the Director and Associate Director of Graduate Admission by recommending and implementing plans based on departmental goals and objectives.  
    • Other duties as assigned.

     

     

    COMPETENCIES 

    • A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent is required; Master’s degree is preferred. 
    • A valid driver’s license is required. 
    • 3-5 years of relevant experience is required, preferably in admission or higher education.  
    • Excellent analytical, communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills required.  
    • Understanding of discretion related to handling confidential information is required. 
    • Flexibility to work evenings and weekends is required. 
    • Experience mentoring and coaching employees in a leadership role is preferred. 
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Technolutions Slate, and Ellucian Banner is preferred. 
    • Ability to multi-task and manage multiple priorities with short notice and changing deadlines is preferred.

     

     

    WORK ENVIRONMENT 

    This job operates in a professional office environment.  This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as personal computers, printers, etc. 

     

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS 

    The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.  While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; move about; sit; to carry work and use controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; communicate. The employee must occasionally lift or move up to 25 lbs. Specific vision abilities required by the employee include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.  

     

    POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK 

    This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Thursday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Friday 8:30am-3:00pm.  Occasional early morning, night, and weekend hours required for recruitment events.  

     

    TRAVEL 

    Travel may be both domestic and international, and overnight travel may be required. 

     

    REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:  

    • A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent is required. 
    • 3-5 years of relevant experience is required.

     

     

    PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: 

    • Master’s degree is preferred. 
    • 3-5 years relevant experience in admission or enrollment management is preferred.

     

     

    ADDITIONAL ELIGIBILITY QUALIFICATIONS 

    • A valid driver’s license is required.

     

     

    _In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the annual salary for this position is $67,000.  St. John’s University considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.  _ 

      

    This position may be relocated to any of St. John’s University’s physical locations at any time.
