    Job Summary and Essential Functions:

    1. Ensure all safety procedures outlined by the AACCA must be strictly adhered to.

    • Safety is a priority.

    2. Manage all personnel and aspects of the program to include the preparation of student-athletes through practice sessions and preparation for performances.

    3. Provide management and oversight at all required athletic contests and events.

    • The premier focus is basketball home contests.
    • The team should always be on time and prepared for all pre-game activities. Team appearance should always follow dress code policy and should be always uniform. This includes traveling to and from games.
    • Ensure team remains positive and professional during games in lieu of many demands and distractions. Maintain ambitious standards of conduct and discipline.

    4. Practice needs to be structured and organized, and a coach needs to be always present.

    • Provide structure and oversight required to ensure a safe practice environment for every single routine.
    • Ensure all practice routines are certified and in compliance with AACCA regulations.

    5. The coach must teach proper technique for all movements, including pyramids, stunts, basket tosses, and all other routines.

    • The coach needs to be able to moderate practice routines based on skill level and the strength and coordination required for each technique.
    • The coach needs the experience to teach and educate each team member on proper safety guidelines, specific to each technique.

    6. Recruiting: ensure a diverse pool of participants and team members.

    • Ensure tryouts are organized, well-advertised, and well attended. Ensure all insurance guidelines and safety procedures are met.
    • Recruit student-athletes who embody the academic, social, and athletic expectations set forth by the University.

    7. Team management: clearly define team expectations regarding their unique role in representing the university.

    • Meet once per week to review expectations and professionalism.
    • Continually educate team members about their high-profile nature and the importance of representation of the university.
    • Ensure team members always follow all ticket policies.
    • Encourage a positive attitude whenever interacting with staff, faculty, and opposing teams.
    • Coach must ensure appropriate attire for team travel, practice, games, and events and appropriate behavior for student-athletes.

    8. Compliance: establish and maintain a working knowledge of the NCAA and BIG EAST Conference rules and regulations and St. John’s University policies and procedures.

    • Maintain these operating guidelines, policies, and procedures to ensure 100% compliance throughout the calendar year for all personnel associated with the program.

    Requirements:

    • Bachelor’s Degree.
    • Minimum 2 years of coaching experience.
    • American Association of Cheerleading Coaches and Administrators Certified (AACCA) Certified.
    • CPR/AED Certified.
    • Background checks required

    Supervisory Responsibility:

    This position monitors the student athletes well as volunteer staff.

    Physical Demands:

    While performing this job's duties, the employee will be required to stand and perform duties on the basketball court including passing, running, rebounding.

    Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:

    Part time

    8:00am – 6:00pm (Hours will vary)

    Travel:

    Travel is to basketball games at Madison Square Garden.
