    The Division of Administration and Economics in the Collins College of Professional Studies at St. John’s University is seeking applicants for a full-time tenure track position as Assistant Professor of Fashion Studies, commencing September 1, 2022.

    THE DIVISION The Division of Administration & Economics houses bachelor’s degree programs in Hospitality Management, Fashion Studies, and Enterprise Regulation: Profit and Non-Profit; a master’s degree in International Hospitality Management; and an associate degree in Business. Full-time faculty are experts in their respective fields and all programs focus on providing students with the skills needed to find employment upon graduation and/or prepare them for graduate study.     THE PROGRAM The BS degree program in Fashion Studies Program deals with the business of Fashion, with an emphasis on the ethical, social justice, and sustainability components of the industry.  Global issues relating to fashion are emphasized and the program has relationships with many local, national, and international fashion organizations where students can intern.  Please see the following link for more information:

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    This is a teaching-intensive position (12 credit hours per semester) with opportunities for service or research reductions. Service and research productivity is important, but secondary to teaching excellence and a strong commitment to student engagement. Division faculty are expected to participate in academic advisement, student mentoring, and other student engagement activities as required by the Chair and/or Dean.

     

    QUALIFICATIONS

    The ideal candidate will be and experienced industry professional who has the ability to transition into a dedicated and skilled educator.  A master’s degree in Fashion Studies or a closely-related field is required.  Teaching experience at the college level is strongly preferred. Knowledge of fashion design process, experience in both hand-drawn fashion design and computer-aided fashion design, and fashion design and production experience with well-known brands preferred. It is likely that the successful candidate will be asked to lead the program moving forward, so industry relationships and a strong network, especially in the greater metropolitan area, is a plus.

     

    Candidates should be familiar with technology-supported learning pedagogy and should be able to integrate technology into teaching.  Candidates must exhibit potential for professional growth.
