    SUMMARY OF POSITION: The Communications Coordinator works closely with the Senior Director of Communications to spread the word and generate awareness about St. Patrick Center, including the mission, programs, fundraisers and special events, accomplishments and successes. Marketing and branding materials are produced in the Communications Center and communicated through various channels, including video, websites, email, social media, newsletter, advertising, print materials and public speeches. Audiences include agency employees, board members, donors, volunteers, partners, clients, businesses, schools and the media. Strong emphasis is placed on proper agency branding standards, message and materials consistency, and department budgets.

    The Communications Coordinator also closely monitors media for coverage and maintains follow-up reports for TV, radio, newspaper, publications, website, email marketing and social media. He or she works with outside vendors, such as printers and production companies, and college internship programs.

    RESPONSIBILITIES: Derived from the position description above. They include but are not limited to the following:
    • COPYWRITING: Daily social media updates on St. Patrick Center facebook and twitter, plus occasional posts to other social media sites; newsletter articles, flyers, good news stories, news releases, email marketing messages, website content and event materials.
    • PHOTOGRAPHY: Daily coverage of agency events for use in social media and other comm channels; informal portraits needed for ID badges; manage photos on flickr site.
    • MARKETING MATERIALS: Manage St. Patrick Center’s many marketing materials, including those requested by staff to support agency programs. Keep them in stock for staff member use, update them as needed. Includes copywriting and graphic design.
    • MEDIA RELATIONS: Work with the media to generate awareness about St. Patrick Center. Includes pitching story ideas, setting up story shoots and interviews, posting news releases on the website, public relations and agency tours.
    • MEDIA TRACKING: Track all St. Patrick Center mentions in the media. Includes monitoring the daily newspaper and TV news reports, keeping a file of stories (print, TV, radio), sharing stories with staff members and assembling an annual media report.
    • Other projects and duties as assigned, including advocacy and videos.

    DIRECT REPORTS: None

    KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:
    • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or college in communications, marketing, broadcasting, journalism, public relations or similar field
    • Some experience required in copywriting, media relations, website management, email marketing and social media
    • Some experience preferred in graphic design, still photography and video production
    • Some non-profit experience preferred, but not required, including non-profit communications, marketing, fundraising and events
    • Must possess a demonstrated commitment to volunteerism that includes actual volunteer experience

    SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
    • Strong computer and organizational skills, with proficiency in Microsoft Word, Publisher, PowerPoint and Excel
    • Some experience preferred in Adobe Creative Suite, specifically InDesign and Photoshop
    • Self-motivated with leadership skills and a genuine interest in the agency’s mission
    • Ability to build and maintain positive relationships that lead to successful promotion of the agency
    • Articulate and credible spokesperson for public audiences, including the media
    • Must be a flexible, positive team player with ability to balance multiple projects and meet deadlines
