    Summary of Position: The Grants Writer I, supports the Program Operations team primarily through grant administration, but may also participate in fundraising activities. Including research and updates administrative systems for tracking grants and reports deadlines. Fundraising activities include the development of grant proposals, collecting and managing programmatic and outcome data, and working with program and administrative staff throughout the grant development process. Grant administration consists of facilitating informative meetings about grants awards and requirements and assisting program, finance and data staff in the completion of grant reports to ensure compliance of grantor requirements Primary Responsibilities: Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. • Identify appropriate sources of restricted support, using current directories, publications, professional contacts, and other information sources, to achieve financial goals. • Identify and research new corporate, government and foundation grant opportunities. • Cultivate, steward and renew all existing grants. • Through interviews and other means, gather information that will easily allow him/her to grasp the concept of a project of program for which funding is sought as defined by the program person responsible for carrying it out. • Compile, write and edit all grant applications exhibiting strong expository writing skills and a high-level command of grammar and spelling. • Develop individual grant proposals in accordance with each grant-making organization’s preferences and follow exactly each grant-making organization’s guidelines; apply additional supportive material if requested. • Develop the process of supplying progress reports when required by a grant-making organization that has funded a project or program. • Prepare funding requests for submittal by deadlines with input from Finance; prepare grant amendments, when appropriate. • Establish relationships with foundations and corporations in coordination with the Senior Director of Development and the Major Gifts Team. • Ensue that funders are appropriately acknowledged for their gifts. • Coordinate requests to corporations. • Explore new opportunities for funding that aligns with St. Patrick Center mission. • Undertake research, develop grant proposals, design, implement and supervise systems for grants tracking and reporting. • Incorporate current information and reporting technology to facilitate grants development and reporting. • Develop and maintain information systems to monitor grant deadlines, expenditures and all other information relevant to securing and fulfilling granting requirements. • Develop and maintain update, online grant resources. • Identify appropriate sources of restricted support, using current directories, publications, professional contacts, and other information sources to achieve financial goals. • Facilitate and coordinate non-government and government grant roll outs. • Other duties as assigned Required Education and Experience • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or college; master’s degree preferred. • Minimum of 2 years of experience in professional grant writing setting with a proven record of successful performance. • Preferred experience with Raiser’s Edge or other fundraising software • Working knowledge of research techniques, information sources, and technology. • Strong verbal and written communication and organizational skills • Excellent verbal and writing skills • Highly developed interpersonal skills • Able to handle several projects simultaneously • Detail and deadline oriented • Ability to work under pressure • Self-motivated, flexible, positive attitude • Ability to relate well with colleagues, a diverse group of senior professionals and staff at all levels throughout the agency • Analytical and interpretive skills • Understanding and empathy toward the needs of low-income or homeless families • Experience working with low-income and homeless individuals and families • Basic understanding of the Homeless Population and its many diverse groups • Expertise in grant compliance, including but not limited to governmental funding agencies • Strong knowledge of budgets and financial analysis. • Review documents for completeness, accuracy, authorization and regulatory and procedural compliance. • Analyze compliance problems and recommend solutions. • Work well under pressure to meet inflexible deadlines. • Write and present reports. Advanced in Excel • Maintain accurate records and files. • Work independently and exercise initiative and sound judgment.
