    St. Philip's School and Community Center is a ministry that operates a private, non-denominational, Pre-K through 8th grade elementary school, building academic excellence, strong self-esteem, and high character values. In addition, for more than 30 years, we have provided programs 12 months a year through our Community Center for children, their families and for senior citizens in South Dallas, including athletic, after-school, cultural programs, the food pantry, and a meals-on-wheels depot.

    General Summary

    The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is responsible for all aspects of the financial operations for both St. Philip’s School & Community Center and affiliates. Reporting directly to the Headmaster and Chief Executive Officer (CEO), the CFO provides accounting, budgetary, operational, policy and programmatic support to both agencies’ programs and activities; as well as directly oversees and supervises the financial/accounting staff. The CFO represents both St. Philip’s School & Community Center, and its Foundation and other financial ventures to financial partners, including Board of Directors, financial institutions, investors, foundation executives, auditors, public officials, etc. The CFO is the primary agency contact for all contractual matters, proposals for new or extended programs and new business development and serves as an active member of the Executive Management Team helping to develop and implement the agency’s vision and mission.

    Job Qualifications

    The position requires strong leadership skills, critical thinking, detailed planning, project management and problem-solving skills, both for strategic issues and in day-to-day activities. Moreover, the CFO must be a “team player” with excellent interpersonal skills, be mindful of deadlines and demonstrate the ability to communicate financial data clearly, concisely and effectively to both internal and external audiences.

    Educational & Minimum Skill Requirements

    • CPA and bachelor’s degree in accounting, Business Administration, or Finance from an accredited college or university with a minimum of twenty undergraduate credits in accounting

    • Seven years of work experience in accounting or finance

    • Experience in budget development and implementation; financial reporting, payroll, audit preparation, financial risk management and new market tax credits

    • Proficient in technology, especially financial software/spreadsheets

    • Must be ethical with a high level of integrity and confidentiality

    • Demonstrated ability to provide leadership, teamwork and collaborative working relationships.

    • Prior experience in a management/supervisory role.

    • Prior experience in non-profit environment preferred.

    Duties and Responsibilities

    • Responsible for overall management and oversight of all business office and financial functions, including direct supervision of all business office staff.
    • Strategic partner to the Head of School and Leadership Team regarding business, financial and institutional risk management functions.
    • Staff liaison for the Finance Committee of the Board, which includes administrative support for creating and distributing agenda packets, scheduling meetings, drafting meeting minutes and preparing appropriate financial analyses to support Committee work.
    • Review and formal approval all monthly reconciliations and all journal entries.
    • Review and sign checks and check run reports
    • Responsible for monthly and yearend financial reporting and analyses.
    • Preparation of the preliminary and final budgets and financial forecasts.
    • Responsible for treasury management function, including monitoring of cash balances, debt and investments.
    • Responsible for preparing yearend audit, financial statements and Form 990’s for all SPSCC entities.
    • Responsible for retirement plan reporting and compliance.
    • Responsible for the development and monitoring of Business Office policies and procedures.
    • Responsible for oversight of the purchasing policies and procedures, including vendor selection and approval, reviewing multiple bids, etc...
    • Responsible for reviewing and executing all contracts across the organization, with legal review when appropriate.
    • Responsible for insurance program/renewal, including commercial insurance and employee health insurance
