COMMUNICATIONS ASSOCIATE AT SAINT THOMAS CHOIR SCHOOL
The Saint Thomas Choir School was founded in 1919 by Saint Thomas Church to provide musical training and education for primary and middle school aged boys. One of only three schools of its kind in the world, today the school provides professional level musical education and outstanding high school preparation to 30-35 students who live at the school in Midtown Manhattan. The Choir School works in tandem with Saint Thomas Church to fulfill the church’s mission to worship in the Anglican tradition.
Saint Thomas Choir School is looking for a Communications and Marketing Associate who will report to the Director of Communications and Digital Production and who will work closely with the Head of School and Director of Enrollment and Outreach to execute the communications needs of the Choir School on a weekly, monthly, and annual basis. Key responsibilities include generating messaging and communications assets for internal constituents, prospective families, alumni, parents and Choir School supporters. The successful candidate will also create content for social media channels, liaise with relevant media sources to advertise Choir School events, and work with the Director of Communications to tell the larger story of the Choir School across all digital and print communications platforms, from signage to press releases to marketing and fundraising materials. The ideal candidate will also have experience in the production space and/or must be enthusiastic about learning basic livestream and audio production skills in order to assist the production team of Saint Thomas Church for one service per week.
SCHEDULE
This is a full-time, in-person position and requires weekend hours working on a flexible but regular basis.
RESPONSIBILITIES
· Generate weekly e-communications to families of currently enrolled students
· Generate monthly e-communications and quarterly print publications for families, alumni, and supporters
· Work closely with the Director of Communications and Head of School to shape and tell the story of the choir school in a compelling and modern way
· Update, manage, and maintain the Choir School website
· Promote Choir School events and initiatives
· Generate admissions materials with the Director of Enrollment and Outreach
· Oversee public-facing signage and special announcements
· Work with the Concerts at Saint Thomas office to market Choir School events, including drafting press releases and pitching stories
· Execute one video livestream per week under the training and supervision of the Director of Communications and be available for substitution as needed
· Build relationships with relevant media contacts and represent the Choir School publicly
· Collaborate with Choir School leadership to articulate school core values and develop communication strategies to promote school values, mission, purpose
KEY SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES
· Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including an eye for detail and a storytelling instinct
· Superior proficiency in Adobe Suite publishing software
· Strong photography and photo editing skills
· Experience in social media marketing
· Enthusiasm for new and changing social media platforms
· Exceptional organizational and time management skills
· Familiarity with Vimeo, Facebook, and YouTube interfaces.
· Knowledge of Episcopal church liturgy and calendar preferred but not required.
· Directing/Technical Directing multi-camera broadcasts preferred but not required.
· Familiarity with WordPress dashboard preferred but not required.
· Experience in writing markup (html and css) preferred but not required.
· Knowledge of JavaScript and PHP preferred but not required.
· Must be able to lift and carry or otherwise move 25/50 pounds occasionally.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
· Bachelor’s Degree preferred but not required.
· 1 - 2 years of related work experience or study.
SALARY: $45-50K
