Credentialing Specialist

Job Summary
A credentialing specialist is responsible for verifying and maintaining the credentials of healthcare professionals, ensuring that they meet the necessary qualifications and standards to practice in their respective fields. Overall, a credentialing specialist plays a crucial role in ensuring that healthcare professionals are qualified and competent to provide safe and effective care to patients. They contribute to the overall quality and integrity of healthcare organizations by maintaining accurate and up-to-date credentialing records and complying with industry regulations and standards.
Responsibilities
Credentialing Process: Managing the entire credentialing process for healthcare professionals, including, but not limited to physicians, nurses, therapists, and other allied health professionals. This involves collecting and reviewing all necessary documentation, such as licenses, certifications, education, training, and work experience.
Verification: Conducting thorough background checks and verifying the accuracy and authenticity of all credentials provided by healthcare professionals.
Compliance: Ensuring that all credentialing processes and procedures comply with industry regulations, accreditation standards, and organizational policies. Database Management: Maintaining accurate and up-to-date records of healthcare professionals' credentials in a centralized database or credentialing software. This includes entering and updating information, tracking expiration dates of licenses and certifications, and generating reports as needed.
Communication: Collaborating with healthcare professionals, internal staff, and external organizations to gather necessary information and resolve any credentialing-related issues or discrepancies. This may involve communicating with licensing boards, insurance companies, and other healthcare organizations.
Quality Assurance: Participating in quality assurance activities to ensure the accuracy and integrity of the credentialing process.
Continuous Learning: Staying informed about industry trends, changes in regulations, and advancements in credentialing practices.
Confidentiality: Maintaining strict confidentiality of all credentialing-related information and adhering to privacy and security regulations, such as HIPAA.
Qualifications
Required:
2 years of previous experience in credentialing
Knowledge of credentialing processes, regulations, and standards
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
Proficiency in using credentialing software and databases including Modio software
Compliance with privacy and confidentiality regulations, such as HIPAA,
Preferred:
A bachelor's degree in healthcare administration, business administration
CPCS Certification from NAMSS
