    SUMMARY

    Understand and be committed to the overall philosophy of Family support. Maintain respect for confidentiality of information divulged by or on behalf of participants. Possess the ability to relate to people of diverse educational, cultural and economic backgrounds. Be willing and able to do aggressive outreach and recruitment. Model appropriate interaction with young children and parents. Have the ability to work independently and as a team member. Be willing to submit to a criminal background investigation. Have current medical evaluation, including a tuberculosis screen within 6 months before the individual begins work in the Center.

     

     PRIMARY DUTIES

    • Have ability to participate in training classes pertaining to child development, children at risk, special needs, etc.
    • Have ability and desire to work with infants and toddlers and be willing to work with preschoolers.
    • Have ability to accept supervision.
    • Have ability to communicate effectively with parents.
    • Have ability to provide support and education to parents in a positive, non-judgmental manner.
    • Have ability to respect participants communications as confidential and discuss pertinent information with Child Development Specialist.
    • Have ability to involve the parent in working with his/her child.
    • Have ability to follow through on instructions as they pertain to nursery management.
    • Have ability to implement the activity plans for infants, toddlers, and preschoolers.
    • Have ability to model/teach to parents how to nurture and interact with their babies.
    • Have ability to effectively enhance the development of children.
    • Have ability to write observations of children.
    • Have ability to lift up to 50lbs.
    • Have ability to get up and down off of the floor.

    SECONDARY DUTIES

    • Work with other team members to develop relationship with the parents of enrolled children.
    • Maintain good communications with parent, provide support and guidance as needed and document contact.
    • Support volunteers as part of the classroom team and offer hospitality to visitors.
    • Work to support.

    ADDITIONAL DUTIES

    • Upholds the vision, mission and values of St. Vincent de Paul.
    • Participates in and attends continuing education and informational trainings and meetings as needed.
    • Assists with and attends special events held by St. Vincent de Paul
    • Creates an atmosphere of care and respect for staff, volunteers and clients. 
    • Other duties as assigned within the scope of the position.

     

    QUALIFICATIONS

    • Associate degree in Early Childhood Education preferred.
    • 90-hour Child Care Certificate and Infant-Toddler 45 Hour Certificate; CDA preferred.
    • 1 year supervised classroom experience with children age zero through three years.
