We are seeking an Staff Accountant to join our team!
Position Summary:
The Staff Accountant is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, supporting accounting
operations, and ensuring compliance with company financial policies and industry regulations. This role
requires strong attention to detail, financial acumen, and the ability to manage multiple accounting functions
efficiently.
Duties/Responsibilities:
• Perform general cost accounting and related financial duties to ensure accurate reporting.
• Assists in job costing and Work-in-Progress (WIP) reporting to ensure accurate project financial
tracking.
• Prepare and maintain monthly financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and
profit and loss reports.
• Manage and maintain the general ledger, ensuring all transactions are recorded correctly.
• Process and code invoices, set up new accounts, reconcile accounts, and manage month-end and
year-end closings.
• Conduct monthly bank reconciliations, verify deposits, and address inquiries from financial institutions.
• Reconcile cash disbursements, payroll, customer accounts, and other financial accounts, ensuring
accuracy and completeness. Reconciles payroll transactions and verifies accuracy of time entries;
coordinates with third-party payroll provider as needed.
• Oversee accounts receivable collections, ensuring timely payments from clients and subcontractors.
Tracks subcontractor retainage and ensures lien waivers are collected before final payments.
• Verify and process accounts payable invoices, ensuring proper coding and timely payments.
• Assist external auditors by preparing necessary documentation and financial reports for annual audits.
• Coordinate with the Controller to file tax forms with federal, state, and local agencies in compliance with
regulatory requirements.
• Coordinate with accounting software vendors to maintain system functionality.
• Recommend any updates or changes to promote continuous improvement.
• Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and industry
best practices.
• Perform other accounting-related duties as assigned to support the finance team and company
operations.
Required Skills/Abilities:
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong organizational skills with keen attention to detail.
• In-depth knowledge of general financial accounting and cost accounting principles.
• Ability to analyze financial data and ensure compliance with GAAP.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook) and accounting software.
• Experience preparing tax reports and ensuring regulatory compliance.
Education and Experience:
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required.
• Minimum of three years of accounting experience, preferably in the construction industry.
Physical Requirements:
• Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
• Ability to lift up to 15 pounds as needed.
