Job Overview:
Nuckles Oil Company, Inc (DBA Merit Oil & Cool Transports) is seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Staff Accountant to join our team. The Staff Accountant will support our financial operations by performing various daily and monthly accounting functions according to established policies, procedures and controls. This includes general ledger accounting, reconciliations, financial analysis and support in financial statement preparation. This position offers an opportunity to contribute to a company committed to safety, customer service, and excellence in energy/fuel-related sales and transportation. This role will play an essential part in maintaining the day-to-day accounting functions and upholding financial data integrity through processes, reconciliations and analytics support. This position offers an excellent opportunity to gain breadth in accounting skills. This role reports directly to the CFO.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Key support in monthly closing and reporting process, including but not limited to balance sheet reconciliation, expense analysis, and driving timely close
- Reconcile bank and balance sheet accounts on a monthly basis
- Investigate general ledger discrepancies and other areas of concern regarding financial information and recommend corrective action
- Oversee the tracking, accounting, and reporting of capital projects and fixed assets
- Regular tracking and reporting of specialty reporting including fuel cardlock and customer loaned equipment.
- Key direct contact and report supplier for external auditors/CPAs
- Proactive in identifying process inefficiencies and offer suggestions for improvement
- Support payable, receivable and billing processes as needed
- Additional projects as tasked
Minimum Qualifications:
- Associates degree with accounting or finance exposure / emphasis; bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance preferred
- Minimum one year of direct working experience in accounting / finance, public or private
- Proven strong analytical, problem solving, and organizational skills.
- Advanced Excel skills
- Hands-on experience with ERP systems; Quickbooks, PRX and CSI a plus
- Functional understanding of the general ledger, GAAP principles and financial controls
- Ability to read and understand financial reports.
- Able to comfortably interact and communicate with management, other departments and with our external partners.
- Excellent written and verbal communication abilities
- Well organized with capability to prioritize high workloads
- Superior attention to detail and accuracy
