    Staff Accountant

    The ideal candidate will bring a solid foundation (2-3 years) of accounting experience from either a public accounting firm or corporate finance team. Adaptability and willingness to pivot priorities as needed will serve this candidate well. As part of our accounting & finance team, the Staff Accountant will be the point person for invoicing as well as play an integral part in the month-end close process. Our small, agile, and professional team offers the opportunity to grow under the leadership of a Big Four CPA and gain experience in a multitude of accounting & finance areas.

    This role reports to the Accounting Manager and is located in Chicago, offering a hybrid work environment with a minimum of 3 days required in the office every week and additional days as business needs arise.

    Responsibilities:

    The Staff Accountant will have a wide variety of finance responsibilities. Core responsibilities will relate to accounts receivable, revenue recognition, and general ledger accounting:

    • Generate and distribute invoices to clients according to university term schedules - this process involves using multiple data sources and working with other teams to ensure accurate billing and record keeping. Invoices tend to be complex, large value, and low volume
    • Record all revenue entries in ledger, including accruals and deferrals. Ensure revenue recognition is aligned with latest GAAP pronouncements
    • Significant involvement in month end close, including recording journal entries in the ledger, account reconciliations, month-end financial reporting, analytical review
    • Prepare forecasts and projections of revenue for all clients
    • Monitor aging of accounts receivable and initiate efforts to ensure timely collections
    • Investigate and resolve customer inquiries
    • Assist with audit requests and provide support documentation
    • Perform accounting research on technical issues and new standards
    • Support for other finance processes
    • Ad hoc requests, as needed

    Requirements:

    • Bachelor's degree in accounting
    • CPA License is highly preferred
    • 2-3 years' accounting experience, preferably in public accounting
    • Advanced proficiency in MS Excel (e.g., Vlookup, pivot tables, essential formulas)
    • Some invoicing experience is preferred
    • Familiarity with Netsuite, Tableau, Salesforce, Concur or Bill.com is a plus
