About the Role
The Duke Ellington School of the Arts Finance Department is seeking a full-time Staff Accountant to join our team immediately. The Staff Accountant will play a key role in managing day-to-day financial operations, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and efficiency across all accounting functions.
Key Responsibilities
Accounts Payable
- Generate weekly accounts payable transactions in Blackbaud Financial Edge Accounting System.
- Ensure accurate and timely processing of invoices and payment authorizations.
- Prepare adjusting journal entries and corrections as needed.
- Maintain proper classification of restricted funds and month-/year-end adjustments.
- Refine and implement procedures to strengthen accounts payable management.
- Create accounts payable batch entries on a bi-weekly basis.
General Ledger
- Prepare monthly adjusting entries for review by the Finance Director.
- Maintain depreciation schedules and fixed asset records.
- Assist with year-end audit preparation and ensure accurate allocation across departments and restricted PPE items.
Other Responsibilities
- Administer the purchase order system.
- Assist with student fee collections and school performance box office operations.
- Conduct monthly inventory reconciliations for the school store (“Ellingtonia”).
- Support the Director of Finance and Finance Manager with administrative and financial tasks as needed.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required.
- Experience: 3–5 years of accounting experience required.
- Skills:
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- High proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (especially Excel and Word).
- Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
- Experience with accounting software required; Blackbaud Financial Edge experience preferred.
- Strong attention to detail and adherence to internal control procedures.
