The Opportunity
We are entering a new chapter of growth and are looking for a Staff Accountant to play a key role in our financial operations. This is a craft role for someone who takes deep satisfaction in accurate books, disciplined close processes, and financial statements that are always ready for review.
You will work as part of a small, high-performing team—contributing meaningfully across the Finance function, including AP, AR, payroll, reconciliations, and reporting. You'll have clear ownership of your day-to-day responsibilities within a structure that values collaboration, clear communication, and alignment with company leadership.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Daily & Transactional Accounting
- Review, match, and refine daily transactions within our ERP—leveraging existing automations and built-in functionality to ensure accurate expense categorization and clean data flow
- Manage the AP cycle: vendor invoices, purchase orders, vendor payments, and inventory receipts
- Manage the AR cycle: customer invoicing, payment receipt, and collections follow-up
- Organize and reconcile purchase receipts
- Proactively identify opportunities to optimize ERP workflows and improve how our accounting processes interact with the technology
Month-End Close
- Own and execute the full month-end close on a consistent, documented schedule
- Post all required accruals across AP and AR and record all payroll-related journal entries
- Reconcile all bank accounts and credit card statements and maintain a clean trial balance
- Partner with our CFO to ensure all balance sheet accounts are reconciled each month
- Deliver accurate, reviewed financial statements—balance sheet, income statement, and cash flow—on a defined monthly cadence
Compliance & Reporting
- Oversee sales tax compliance—ensuring our systems are operating correctly, filings are submitted on time, and remittances are made timely across all applicable jurisdictions
- Prepare reports and data on schedule for monthly, quarterly, and annual filings
- Support annual review and audit preparation
- Maintain strict confidentiality of all financial information
Process & Continuous Improvement
- Follow and maintain a documented monthly close procedure—clear enough that anyone on the team can follow it
- Contribute to refining and improving processes over time as MagMod scales
- Surface accounting issues proactively and bring proposed solutions, not just problems
Required Skills & Experience
- 4-year degree in Accounting or a related field
- 5+ years of hands-on experience in a staff or general accountant role
- Solid working knowledge of GAAP
- Proven experience with accounting or ERP software—comfortable in systems, not intimidated by them
- Direct experience owning month-end close, reconciliations, and AP/AR cycles
- Meticulous, detail-oriented working style—you catch errors before they compound and document your work without being asked
- Comfortable in a fast-paced, small-team environment; coachable and collaborative with a genuine desire to grow
- High discretion and integrity when handling confidential financial data
- Strong written and verbal communication skills—you can explain a financial issue clearly to a non-accountant
Preferred Skills
- Experience at an e-commerce or consumer goods company
- Experience working alongside an outsourced or fractional CFO
- Comfortable in a Mac environment and with Google Workspace
- Experience with multi-entity or multi-currency accounting
Who You Are
You are an accountant by craft, not just by title. You notice when something doesn't tie out and can't let it go until it does. You take quiet pride in a clean close, a reconciled statement, and a set of books that's always ready for review.
You move with discipline and precision, and you thrive in a team environment where collaboration, clear communication, and a shared commitment to excellence drive how work gets done. You're coachable—you welcome feedback, you're willing to be directed, and you bring a genuine desire to keep getting better at your craft.
Small company. Real numbers. Actual impact. If that sounds like where you belong, we'd love to hear from you.
