Job Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented and organized Staff Accountant to support the day-to-day accounting operations of our organization. The Staff Accountant will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, preparing journal entries, performing account reconciliations, assisting with financial reporting, supporting month-end and year-end closing processes, and ensuring compliance with accounting policies and procedures.
Key Responsibilities
Prepare and post journal entries.
Reconcile bank accounts, general ledger accounts, and balance sheet accounts.
Assist with monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes.
Maintain accurate financial records and supporting documentation.
Process accounts payable and accounts receivable transactions as needed.
Prepare account analyses and financial reports for management.
Assist in preparing financial statements in accordance with applicable accounting standards.
Support budgeting and forecasting activities.
Prepare monthly, quarterly, or semi-annual reconciliations of real estate tax payments billed to and collected from tenants, ensuring accuracy and timely resolution of discrepancies.
Reconcile tenant tax escalation charges with actual property tax expenses and lease requirements.
Assist with year-end closing procedures, including preparation of schedules, supporting documentation, and financial information required for tax return preparation.
Coordinate with external accountants and tax professionals by providing requested financial reports, reconciliations, and supporting documents for annual tax filings.
Assist in the preparation and review of year-end tax-related schedules, including income, expenses, fixed assets, depreciation, and other supporting information.
Assist with external audits by providing requested documentation and schedules.
Monitor fixed assets and depreciation schedules.
Ensure compliance with company policies, accounting principles, and regulatory requirements.
Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes and strengthen internal controls.
Perform other accounting and finance duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
1–3 years of accounting experience preferred.
Strong understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting software (e.g., AppFolio, QuickBooks, NetSuite, SAP, Oracle, or Microsoft Dynamics).
Experience with real estate or property management accounting is a plus.
Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
