    Job Title : Staff Attorney
    Reports To : Assistant General Counsel
    Group : Corporate Legal
    Compensation Range : $95,000 to $105,000 annually
    FLSA Status : Exempt


    The Role:

    C.A.R. is seeking a Staff Attorney to join its Corporate Legal department. This role will provide legal advice and counsel to the trade association, its subsidiaries, and affiliates on a wide spectrum of topics including contracts, corporate governance, PAC issues, antitrust, and other legal matters. This role will also provide support to local REALTOR® associations on topics such as multiple listing services (MLS) issues, professional standards, dues billing, and other membership matters. Additionally, this role will draft contracts, amicus briefs, position papers, and other materials. Limited travel within California approximately 3-4 times a year will be required. Lots of variety – you won’t be bored!


    Key Responsibilities :

    • Negotiate, draft and review a variety of contracts.
    • Provide legal advice and counsel to the trade association, its subsidiaries, and affiliates on a wide spectrum of topics including contracts, corporate governance, PAC issues, antitrust, and other legal matters.
    • Support and advise local REALTOR® associations on multiple listing services (MLS) issues, professional standards, dues billing, and other membership matters. This includes working towards becoming the C.A.R. Staff Coordinator for the MLS Policy Committee, with related duties.
    • Provide support to Legal Action Fund Trustees; draft case analyses and amicus briefs.
    • Keep abreast of legal developments affecting trade associations, antitrust, real property matters, and other topics relevant to this role.
    • Draft and review legal articles, position papers, and other legal materials.
    • Legal research and memoranda as needed.

    Minimum Qualifications :

    • J.D. from ABA-accredited law school.
    • Member of California State Bar.
    • 3+ years’ experience working in a law firm or comparable in-house experience.

    Preferred Qualifications :

    • Experience with antitrust law, political matters, and/or drafting and negotiating contracts.
    • Experience drafting appellate briefs.

    Skills Required:

    • Excellent legal reasoning, written and verbal communication skills, attention to detail, and judgment.
    • Comfortable with technology (including Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Westlaw, internet research and use).

    Travel:

    • Business meetings within CA three times per year.
    • Minimal additional travel may be required.
