    Staff Attorney, Family Defense

    New York City (Hybrid)

    Salary: $84,900 to $107,500 per year, based on experience.

    Terrific new Staff Attorney positions with a nonprofit that provides innovative legal defense services to thousands of New York City families in need each year. The Staff Attorney, Housing will work on referred cases to address a wide range of housing issues, which include representing clients in housing court, eviction prevention, safe housing, and obtaining public benefits. The Staff Attorney, Family Defense will be part of a new team based in the organization's Staten Island office that will provide legal services and represent clients in family court. This position will be integral in expanding the new practice. These are both unionized positions.

    Responsibilities:

    • Oversee cases providing counsel, advice, and litigation for housing or family court issues
    • Provide assistance to clients by completing necessary paperwork, as well as attending meetings and appointments
    • Identify any issues that impact the organization's clients and explore potential solutions
    • Participate in community engagement with workshops, creation of legal education materials, and conducting outreach to local social and community organizations
    • Maintain relevant data on client outcomes
    • Actively participate in organizational trainings and DEI initiatives

    Qualifications:

    • Relevant experience
    • JD and admitted to the New York State Bar; or passed the New York State bar and pending admission
    • Bilingual in Spanish a plus
    • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
    • Ability to work collaboratively with interdisciplinary teams
    • Experience and understanding of public benefits is a plus
