    Job Description

    Senior Legal Services (SLS) seeks a Part-Time Staff Attorney to serve the seniors of Baltimore.

    SLS is a joint program of The Bar Association of Baltimore City and the Baltimore Bar Foundation. We provide vital legal services to low-income seniors (aged 60+) in Baltimore City, representing clients in civil matters including estate planning, consumer debt, landlord/tenant disputes, foreclosure prevention, and guardianship. Our mission is to empower an underserved population to age in place and thrive in their community.

    Job Duties

    • ** Client Advocacy:** Represent and advise clients in foreclosure, tax sale, and home preservation matters.
    • ** Direct Services:** Screen callers for eligibility, provide brief legal advice, and meet with clients at local centers for estate planning sessions.
    • ** Case Management:** Open and maintain cases in the management system and draft legal documents.
    • ** Elder Justice:** Provide high-quality legal services to victims of elder abuse, neglect, or financial exploitation.
    • ** Community Engagement:** Maintain relationships with referral partners and support multidisciplinary elder abuse prevention coalitions.
    • ** Pro Bono Support:** Recruit and train pro bono attorneys through affiliated programs.
    • ** Reporting:** Collect data and draft reports on services provided and the nature of legal issues addressed.

    Desired Qualifications

    • ** Licensure:** All candidates must be barred in Maryland.
    • ** Experience:** Familiarity with elder justice issues and Baltimore City legal basics (Landlord/Tenant, Estate Planning, District Court procedure).
    • ** Communication:** Ability to effectively explain complex legal issues to unsophisticated parties.
    • ** Commitment:** Demonstrated dedication to pro bono, public interest work, or serving indigent populations.
    • ** Logistics:** Ability to travel to various locations around Baltimore City.
    • ** Language:** Spanish speaking is a plus (not required).

    Compensation & Benefits

    In addition to a competitive hourly rate, we offer a supportive environment and the following benefits package:
