    We are currently seeking a Staff Consultant to join our Surface Transportation group based in our Burlington, MA, headquarters. This hybrid position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to our growing transportation planning and environmental practice. Since our establishment in 1981, HMMH has been dedicated to addressing environmental impacts from transportation systems nationwide. In this role, you will primarily focus on supporting environmental analyses of noise and vibration impacts from rail and highway projects, ranging from small local initiatives to major metropolitan undertakings.

    Responsibilities:

    • Participate in noise and vibration measurement trips as part of fieldwork activities.
    • Utilize your quantitative data analysis skills to evaluate noise and vibration impacts.
    • Build and execute complete Traffic Noise Model (TNM) files, conduct Barrier analyses, and integrate TNM data into Impact Assessment and Barrier Analysis spreadsheets.
    • Conduct Federal Transit Administration (FTA) and Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) noise and vibration studies.
    • Prepare technical memos and reports to document findings and recommendations.
    • Lead specific tasks within larger projects.
    • Collaborate with project team members and clients to ensure effective project delivery.
    • Undertake other duties as assigned such as contributing to proposal efforts for new projects.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    Minimum Requirements:

    • Possess a Bachelor's (BA, BS) or Master's (MS) degree in a technical field such as acoustics, engineering, physics, math, or environmental sciences.
    • Have a minimum of 2 years of technical work experience.
    • Demonstrate strong quantitative, analytical, and communication skills.
    • Exhibit attention to detail and the ability to effectively manage multiple projects simultaneously.
    • Possess experience with computer modeling.
    • Display excellent writing skills, specifically in reporting technical information for a non-technical audience.
    • Work well independently as well as within a project team.
    • Be open to occasional travel (approximately 15%) for field measurements, conferences, and client meetings.
    • Show a strong desire to apply physics, math, and/or engineering skills within a respected consulting firm that values technical excellence, integrity, ethics, respect, teamwork, and professional growth.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Have experience in noise and/or vibration analysis.
    • Possess proficiency in using GIS for data acquisition, analysis, and reporting functions.
    • Demonstrate competence in data management and programming, particularly with SQL and Python.
    • Previous consulting experience is a plus.
