  • Responsibilities

    The VDC Engineer is responsible for managing virtual construction needs across various departments, including Preconstruction, Construction Operations, and Consulting/Litigation Support Services. This role requires expertise in utilizing VDC software programs and collaborating with different teams. The VDC Engineer will be based in Woodland Hills, CA, but flexibility is required for travel to jobsites and partner offices.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

    1. Develop and coordinate 3D object-oriented models.
    2. Create 5D visual simulations incorporating BIM+TIME+COST using Navisworks or Synchro.
    3. Perform clash detections to identify and resolve potential conflicts.
    4. Conduct 3D scanning using Trimble 3D scanner and Layout of work using Trimble Robotic Total Station.
    5. Process actual job cost, model-based quantity reports, model-based quantity take-offs, and actual schedule information for as-built project control, risk analysis, and historical reference.
    6. Create Formwork and concrete lift and placement drawings for horizontal and vertical control and general assembly drawings.
    7. Support Preconstruction and Business Development efforts by creating photorealistic imagery using Artlantis and other rendering engines.
    8. Manage project document management, including RFIs, submittals, PCOs, NOC, etc.
    9. Process raw 3D point cloud scan files and produce registered files using software suites such as Trimble REALWORKS, Scene, Rythm, or similar software.
    10. Produce as-built models based on scan files using Trimble REALWORKS or similar software and/or TEKLA Structures.
    11. Convert and correct building model files or 3D scanned point clouds to create rapid prototype 3D printable objects using Materialise Magics and Space Claim.
    12. Perform completeness and constructability reviews under supervision and issue/manage RFIs.

    Qualifications:

    1. Minimum Bachelor's degree in architecture, engineering, or construction-related field or equivalent work experience.
    2. 2+ years of experience in the building or design industry preferred, but not required.
    3. Understanding of VDC or BIM concepts.
    4. Exposure to and preliminary experience with some Building Information Model (BIM) systems (i.e., Autodesk Revit, Bentley, Vico Constructor, TEKLA, Synchro, Navisworks, Sketchup, and similar software suites) required.
    5. Excellent computer skills, including high proficiency in MS Office, Adobe Acrobat, and BlueBeam.
    6. Strong personal management skills, dedication, organization, and open-mindedness required.
    7. Creative thinker with the ability to work in a close-knit environment.
    8. Other duties as may be assigned by supervisors.
