Role Overview ****
The Startup Technician is a mid-level HVAC field role designed for EPA-certified technicians capable of diagnosing residential HVAC systems, quoting approved repairs, and performing most service jobs (excluding full system replacements or major ductwork).
Working closely with a Sales Rep, Startup Techs form a two-person crew that delivers door-to-door visibility, field diagnoses, customer estimates, and job execution. They help qualify leads, execute repairs, and route major jobs efficiently—maximizing company effectiveness and customer satisfaction.
Primary Responsibilities ****
- Diagnose HVAC systems and generate estimates using the Climate Boss QC Form
- Obtain estimate approval from Carlos or Senior Tech prior to performing work
- Perform most residential HVAC repairs excluding major duct or full system installs
- Operate in a field team with Sales Rep for canvassing, QCs, and job execution
- Sell Comfort Club memberships and support referral generations
- Distribute flyers and support field marketing visibility
- Prescreen and route major technical jobs to Senior Techs
- Maintain and stock company vehicle with parts, tools, and safety gear
- Maintain vehicle cleanliness and perform weekly readiness checks
- Submit daily Field Reports with QC data, job documentation, and photos
Track and report KPIs weekly, including:
- Comfort Club sales
- Walk-up QCs
- Jobs scoped vs. completed
- Senior Tech referrals
Certification Requirements ****
- Required: EPA 608 Certification (Universal preferred)
- Preferred: OSHA 10, NATE, Manufacturer Training
- Driving: Clean, valid driver's license and insurable record
KPI & Reporting Expectations ****
- Submit daily Field Reports with photos, metrics, and job notes
- Prepare and organize each day’s schedule with full readiness
- Master Housecall Pro, QC forms, and proposal systems
- Track job productivity, sales performance, and referral handoffs
- Use AI tools and self-guided learning for growth and troubleshooting
Team Dynamics & Customer Experience ****
- Partner with Sales Rep as the field-facing face of Climate Boss
- Deliver excellent communication, professionalism, and technical clarity
- Train and support Maintenance Techs during ride-alongs (as assigned)
- Maintain a clean, respectful, and informative customer presence
