    POSITION SUMMARY:

    The Senior Structural Engineer will function as the lead structural engineer on assigned projects and will also provide direction, assistance and peer review on other projects.

     

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Knowledge and application of the latest codes including IBC/ASCE7, AWSD1.1, AISI, AISC and ACI_318
    • Provide primary direction to structural team concerning applicable design codes and requirements.
    • Provide direction and oversight as required on structural engineering of all projects assigned to other structural engineers.
    • Assign/determine all appropriate loads to structures based on project and code requirements.
    • Perform structural analysis on steel and concrete structural systems.
    • Engineer/Analyze pipe and pipe rack supports and systems; miscellaneous steel structures and platforms.
    • Engineer/Analyze equipment foundations for static and dynamic loads on projects where included in scope.
    • Design and/or analyze structural systems for local seismic requirements where applicable. Research seismic requirements for specific location.  Provide estimates of cost impact based on specific seismic requirements.
    • Interface directly with project Lead CAD/Designers, engineers and Project Managers to develop and coordinate structural system general arrangements and system details.
    • Interface directly with Roeslein Modular Fabrication to regularly review fabrication methods and regarding inspection of structural systems prior to delivery.
    • Maintain files of calculations and structural documentation for each project.
    • Check, update and maintain structural standards and procedures.
    • Check and review design/fabrication drawings developed by R&A.
    • Check and review structural steel fabrication detail drawings and connection details.
    • Provide direction and assistance to designers and design/drafters.
    • Coordinate with engineers/designers on piping stress analysis and structural supports for thermal stress loads.
    • Perform site visits occasionally to evaluate modifications required to existing platform and/or building structures.
    • Develop familiarity with pipe stress analysis process and software
    • Develop and maintain relationships with employees at all locations.
    • Conduct activities in a safe and healthy manner and work in accordance with established safety and company requirements.

     

    OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    WORK ENVIRONMENT:

    Work is performed in an office and uncontrolled atmosphere.  Exposure to harsh conditions—such as:  dust, fumes, chemicals, hazardous materials, noise, and varying weather and temperatures—for short periods of time is possible.  All employees are required to follow safety standards and wear all personal protective equipment in designated areas. 

     

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

    The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential function of this job.   While performing the duties of this position, the employee will is regularly required to walk, stand, use hands and fingers, grip, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; and talk and hear.  Ability to lift and carry 10 lbs. on a regular basis is required. 

     

    KNOWLEDGE / SKILL / ABILITY / EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE:

    • Bachelor’s degree with emphasis in Structural Engineering is required.
    • Missouri Professional Engineering registration required.
    • Minimum of ten (10) years of experience in industrial structural engineering (primarily steel structures) required.
    • Minimum of five (5) years of experience as lead structural engineer on industrial steel projects.
    • Experience with design and analysis of bar joist structures including Pratt and Warren styles preferred.
    • Experience and proficiency with either RAM, STAAD or RISA structural analysis software required.
    • Experience with Bentley AutoPIPE Pipe stress analysis preferred.
    • Strong analytical and problem solving skills are required.
    • Mechanical aptitude and hands-on mechanical/repair experience preferred.
    • Basic AutoCAD proficiency is preferred.
    • Ability to work flexible hours and some weekend work may be required.
    • Excellent communication skills; both oral and written is required.
    • Exceptional attention to detail.
    • Excellent organization and planning skills.
    • Ability to effectively learn and acquire new knowledge and skills.
    • Computer skills and an in-depth knowledge of Microsoft Windows based programs are required.
    • Requires effective time management skills, personal conduct, and change management abilities.
    • Ability to effectively interact with co-workers, clients, vendors, and other business contacts.

    Required Skills Required Experience

  • Qualifications
    • Demonstrated ability to independently manage the assessment of new business and market initiatives, including closely coordinating with cross-functional, internal and external stakeholders
    • Hands-on FTM renewable electricity project development experience (energy storage development experience is a plus) including modeling and negotiating interconnection agreements, utility procurements / PPA’s and/or corporate PPA’s
    • Experience trading or selling clean energy into merchant wholesale markets, preferably CAISO
    • Demonstrated success in leading teams with indirect influence (i.e., dotted line management, partner management or client management)
    • Excellent project management skills with the ability to manage multiple high-value projects and partners simultaneously
    • Proficient in financial modeling of wholesale electricity projects in Excel, including business case scenario analysis
    • Comfort with ambiguity, self-motivated and ability to independently prioritize
    • Ability to interface with all levels of management and communicate cross-functionally in a structured and clear manner to influence outcomes
