People of all ages and backgrounds come to the Y learn to swim, for water safety education, and to meet their health and wellness goals in the pool. Lifeguards are essential to ensuring a safe environment for those individuals. The lifeguard creates a safe and positive atmosphere that welcomes and respects all individuals while promoting and maintaining safe swimming conditions in the pool, deck and surrounding areas. ** (6am - 11am)**

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Maintain constant surveillance of the pool area
- Know/review all emergency procedures and respond to emergency situations immediately in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures. Complete related reports as required
- Maintain effective, positive relationships with the members, participants and other staff
- Know, understand, and consistently apply safety rules, policies and guidelines for the pool and aquatic area
- Perform equipment checks and ensures appropriate equipment is available as needed
- Check the pool for hazardous conditions
- Perform chemical testing at appropriate times of the day, as required, and take appropriate action
QUALIFICATIONS
Experience
- 1-2 years' related experience preferred
Education
- Some high school required
- Coursework in lifeguarding and/or water safety preferred
Certification
- Lifeguard certification required
- Basic life support or professional rescuer CPR/AED, first aid, and emergency oxygen administration required
