Job Description
The Drayage Operations Specialist is a key team member of a high energy and ever-evolving department that supports our Intl. drayage pick-up and delivery services for our clients. They will be responsible for end-to-end-services for ensuring a client’s shipments are properly setup with appointments, drop & picks, live load/unload, and whatever means our clients need us for smooth transportation services. This position encompasses someone with a strong background in logistics, drayage and port operations, and a drive for excellence. This role requires hands-on leadership and a person who is capable and willing to jump in for support and assistance to his/her colleagues with confident and strategic solutions. This person will support and lead a small team of colleagues based in Colombia and must be willing to have constant and daily interaction with them to ensure they are a high-performing group.
Operations
- Fully knowledgeable of all operational aspects of our TMS and how the workflow is setup to be as efficient as possible; brings suggestions how to automate and improve processes; challenges status quo for better process flow
- Able to input and execute loads for dispatch/pick-up according to clients’ needs and requirements; is highly flexible and can mold to difficult customer demands
- Leads trainings/google hangouts/webchats to help new hires, onboarding, and process improvement reviews to ensure the team is flawlessly executing their daily tasks
- Daily communication with Steam Colombia team members to troubleshoot issues and be there main Point of Contact for all daily operational needs
- Shines as an example of The Perfect Shipment model to all team members within in Dray Operations POD
- Builds key relationships with both truckers and customers to ensure Steam Logistics is seen as best-in-class service provider; proactive communicator via phone & email follow up
- Excellent sense of container tracking to ensure we avoid all detention, demurrage, per diem, storage, etc.; Comes up with unique and effective solutions to eliminate these costs
- Strong understanding of how Import Customs process works related to freight/cargo releases, pickup numbers, clearance procedures, Rail/CY operations, etc. and can act as a lead facilitator to keep containers moving
- Ensure all documentation regarding drayage shipments are correct, clear and communicated to the appropriate parties; able to proactively identify when missing details will causes problems before they occur
- Effectively communicate and offer solutions when capacity problems arise, as well as ensuring ERD’s and Port Cuts are prioritized
- Support with shipment audits of transport booking files within the POD and offer lasting solutions when repeat errors are uncovered
- Financially savvy to ensure carriers are invoicing based on quoted services
- Participates in client onboarding calls and SOP implementation; leads roll-out to Colombian operations team members for execution
- Delegates key accounts to the entire POD while keeping a pulse on department metrics
- Savvy with reporting and financials to understand POD teams volume moved, TEU counts, On-Time metrics, Delivery & Schedule integrity, etc.
- Leads quarterly review of all POD members to review performance goals and future growth plans
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Business / Supply Chain Management or related field or equivalent experience in the transportation / freight forwarding industry
- Ability to work proactively, independently and reliably in a fast-paced, team environment
- Able to work with multi-national teams in Colombia and effectively communicate the needs and messaging to be successful
- Motivated to support clients, team members and other departments while providing exceptional results
- Good written, oral and interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively interface with customers, partners, vendors, management and team members
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
- Excellent knowledge of Terminals, Ports, Railroads, geography and global waterway transit systems
