    Job Summary The Radiation Shielding Engineering Steel Detailer II is responsible for the review and preparation of steel fabrication drawings and assemblies, working under the guidance of senior staff while also demonstrating a higher level of independence in execution.

    This role offers advanced exposure to radiation shielding design within a specialized engineering environment. While prior shielding experience is not required, candidates must possess strong technical aptitude, attention to detail, and well-developed problem-solving skills.

    The position involves reviewing and producing fabrication drawings based on proprietary shielding system designs. The Detailer II will take a lead role in detailing steel members and coordinating with internal manufacturing teams to ensure accuracy and constructability. Depending on workflow demands, cross-training in shielding systems may be provided to deepen overall project understanding. Experience in building construction is not required but is considered beneficial. Extensive experience in steel detailing is required.

    Essential Functions & Key Responsibilities

    Review and redline fabrication drawing packages with a high degree of accuracy and minimal oversight

    Interpret design drawings and extract all required components for detailing

    Independently detail complex assemblies and break them into fully coordinated individual components, including proper keying and references

    Generate precise cut sheets, material lists, and part schedules

    Resolve design and detailing challenges with a proactive and solution-oriented approach

    Identify design conflicts, constructability concerns, and inconsistencies, and communicate them effectively to senior staff

    Collaborate closely with internal manufacturing teams across multiple locations to ensure designs align with fabrication capabilities

    Anticipate fabrication and construction challenges and proactively recommend solutions

    Qualifications, Skills & Abilities

    Associate’s degree in drafting/design or related field is preferred

    5–10 years of experience in steel fabrication detailing required

    Strong understanding of construction methods, materials, and structural design principles

    Advanced proficiency in 2D AutoCAD required; Revit experience is a plus

    Deep understanding of steel fabrication processes, including steel shapes, welding, and use of both imperial and metric measurement systems

    Proven ability to interpret and visualize complex 3D assemblies from 2D drawings

    High attention to detail in drafting standards, layout, and documentation quality

    Ability to identify design improvements and contribute to process efficiency

    Strong written and verbal communication skills

    Collaborative team player with strong interpersonal skills

    Physical Demands / Work Environment This position operates primarily in an office setting and requires frequent use of computers and standard office equipment. The role involves regular communication with internal teams via phone, email, and in person. The ability to move within the office and maintain visual focus on detailed drawings is required. The work environment typically has a moderate noise level.
