  • Responsibilities

Steno is growing! We’re looking for a highly-motivated and detail-oriented Business Analyst to join our Winning Team.

The Business Analyst will be responsible for working with internal teams to understand operational processes and build out analytics to evaluate business functions and opportunities.

    WHO ARE YOU?

Our Business Analysts are extremely organized and thrive in a fast-paced environment. You’ll shine in this role if you have knowledge of SQL (ideally Postgres), using queries to perform analysis, and building visual reports for business segments. You’ll be in your element if you like to work quickly and efficiently and pay close attention to detail. Strong analytical skills are a necessity!

As a Business Analyst, you’ll build reports to support department operations and evaluate the impact of projects on pre-defined success metrics. As we work to streamline processes, you’ll synthesize information and help communicate data effectively across a variety of teams and markets. This role will report directly to the Director of Business Operations and work with him to prioritize analytics resource allocation across the business.

ON A REGULAR BASIS YOU’LL BE:

    • Reviewing data sets in our analytics platforms to ensure accuracy and identify trends

    • Communicating with billing and account management teams to identify and reconcile cross-functional issues

    • Assessing the impact of new business processes on current business process models and systems and developing and executing test plans and schedules to ensure project requirements have been met

    • Serving as the primary connection through which requirements flow between the stakeholders, end user(s), and project teams

    • Developing, reviewing, and editing requirements, specifications, business process, and recommendations related to a proposed solution

    • Providing excellent and hospitable customer service in interactions across the business

    OUR TEAM

Our small team is incredibly mighty! Under the direction of the Director of Business Operations, this functional team plays a pivotal role in finance and analytics here at Steno.

With focus and accuracy across the board, we make sure our books and reporting are as clean and accessible as Steno’s digital interface.

    YOU’RE GONNA CRUSH IT IF:

    • You have 2 - 4 years of experience with SQL and data analysis. Bonus points if you have familiarity with other reporting tools, like Looker or Tableau!

    • You have amazing (but really...like magician level) excel skills and bring a sharp eye to data sets and analytics in any platform, from spreadsheets to dashboards

    • You’re a critical thinker - someone who is creative and can come up with new and innovative solutions to day-to-day challenges

    • You have the ability to work though highly detailed processes at an efficient pace and still stay organized

    • You’re flexible and can deal with ambiguity from time to time - we’re looking for a motivated, self starter with sound judgment

    • You’re proficient with Mac and PC and comfortable learning new systems and software; familiarity with Google Workspace is a huge plus!

    • You have the desire to work with a fast-paced and quickly growing tech start-up and you are enthusiastic about the opportunity for growth within the company. We move fast,

    • Knowledge of the court reporting industry is a plus!

    WHY STENO, WHY NOW?

Steno is revolutionizing the court reporting industry every single day. We’re a diverse team from all over the country (and beyond), crazy about redefining the boundaries of an outdated industry. We’re so excited about where we’re headed and want to invite you along for what’s next (something about wearing shades because Steno’s future's so...bright? Forgive us…we don’t get out much).

Our employees (@futureyou?) are essential to our success and we treat them that way. We offer health benefits,  stock options, a 401k, unlimited vacation, and several other unique perks to show our team how valued they are. We’re also 100% remote, so bring on the stretchy pants and slippers (with a collared shirt thrown in every now and again)--we don’t judge. We’re all just here to do our best work, everyday, together.

If you’re looking for a company that offers support, guidance, an abundance of killer giphys, and unlimited potential to grow into your best self, you can bet we’d love to have you too.

    ABOUT STENO

Steno was founded in Los Angeles in 2018. We are a quickly growing legal technology startup with a very simple core purpose - “to improve the litigation process.” Our team is highly reliable, constantly innovative, and operates with a hospitality mindset in every single way. Seriously. While this is a fast-paced environment, the opportunity for growth is abundant.

In the last year, Steno has grown from just 9 employees in Los Angeles to over 80 employees across the nation and works fully remote. Our team is incredibly diverse and a unique blend of backgrounds in law, technology, operations, and finance. Though not many of us have met in person, we are a cohesive team that has produced amazing results in just a short time (if we do say so ourselves).

Steno developed a new style of deferred litigation financing called DelayPay and Steno Connect, a web-based videoconferencing platform specifically designed for remote depositions and bench trials. And, to top it off, we are growing as a prominent court reporting agency in several major US markets.

Steno just closed a Series A round of funding led by Trust Ventures. With seed investments from First Round Capital, Human Ventures, and others, we’ve raised $13 million in total. This capital not only helps us invest in our business and product but also in our people. We know that without our people, we’d have nothing. So, we offer amazing health and time off benefits, complete home office outfitting, and additional perks that make our culture unique.

Steno is an equal opportunity employer and does not discriminate based on race, religion, color, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, non-disqualifying physical or mental ability, national origin, veteran status, or any other basis covered by appropriate law. All employment is decided based on qualifications, merit, and business needs.
