Job Summary
The Sterile Compounding Pharmacist is responsible for preparing, reviewing, and verifying sterile compounded medications in accordance with USP <797>/<800> standards, state regulations, and internal SOPs. The pharmacist will oversee cleanroom practices, perform quality checks, and collaborate with pharmacy technicians and compliance staff to ensure safe and accurate compounding processes.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and verify sterile compounded medications, including IVs, injectables, and ophthalmics
- Ensure all compounding meets USP <797>, <800>, and state board pharmacy standards
- Supervise and train sterile compounding technicians and cleanroom personnel
- Maintain accurate compounding records, logs, and labeling in pharmacy software systems
- Conduct final product verification and documentation
- Oversee environmental monitoring and cleanroom workflow compliance
- Participate in internal audits, CAPA reviews, and QA/QC reporting
- Support pharmacist-in-charge duties as needed
Qualifications
- PharmD or Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy (from an ACPE-accredited institution)
- Valid Pharmacist License in the State of California
- Minimum 1–2 years of experience in sterile compounding (hospital, 503B, or outpatient setting)
- Knowledge of USP <797>, <800>, and cleanroom protocols
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to patient safety
- Proficient with pharmacy compounding software and documentation tools
Preferred Skills
- Prior experience in 503B outsourcing facility or specialty compounding pharmacy
- Aseptic technique certification (e.g., media fill, glove fingertip testing)
- Familiarity with barcoding, batch compounding, and IV workflow systems
- Experience with EMR/EHR systems and third-party payor documentation
