    Pay: $25-$30 per hour

    Job Summary

    The Sterile Processing Technician is responsible for decontaminating, inspecting, assembling, sterilizing, and distributing surgical instruments and medical equipment. This role ensures all instruments and supplies are processed according to infection control standards and are safely prepared for patient care and surgical procedures.

    Key Responsibilities

    1. Decontamination & Cleaning

    Receive, sort, and decontaminate surgical instruments, trays, and equipment.

    Operate washers, ultrasonic cleaners, and other decontamination equipment.

    Follow proper infection control and OSHA safety protocols.

    1. Assembly & Inspection

    Inspect all instruments for cleanliness, function, and damage.

    Assemble surgical trays according to established count sheets and standards.

    Replace or report any missing or defective instruments.

    1. Sterilization

    Select proper sterilization methods (steam, gas plasma, low-temp) for various instruments.

    Load, operate, and monitor autoclaves and other sterilization units.

    Maintain accurate sterilization logs, biological test results, and documentation.

    1. Distribution & Inventory

    Distribute sterile instruments and supplies to operating rooms and clinical areas.

    Maintain inventory of sterile and non-sterile supplies.

    Ensure timely turnaround of instrument sets for upcoming procedures.

    1. Compliance & Quality Assurance

    Adhere to AAMI, AORN, CDC, and hospital policies.

    Participate in quality audits, equipment checks, and process improvement activities.

    Ensure all work areas remain clean, organized, and compliant with regulatory standards.

    Qualifications

    Education & Certification

    High school diploma or equivalent required.

    Certification as a Sterile Processing Technician (CRCST – IAHCSMM or CBSPD) preferred or required depending on facility.

    Experience

    Previous experience in sterile processing or a hospital setting preferred.

    Knowledge of surgical instruments and sterilization techniques is an advantage
