This position will be responsible for cleaning and inspecting patient equipment, gathering instruments and supplies for surgical case carts, operating equipment and some computer systems, inventory, and restocking departmental supplies and special carts.
Responsibilities:
- Perform and participate in decontaminating, cleaning, assembling, packaging, sterilizing, storing, and distributing reusable surgical instrumentation and equipment.
- Decontaminate and sterilize instruments, medical supplies, and equipment and
- Assemble wraps and sterilize trays of instruments following proper Standard Precautions while in decontamination and sterilization area.
- Monitor biological and chemical wash solutions to ensure quality and consistency for decontamination of instruments and medical equipment.
- Sort mismatched sets of instruments, trays, and medical equipment and make them available to sterile processing customers in a timely manner.
- Restock, label, and maintain inventory; submit requisitions; and collect and distribute instruments, trays, crash carts, and facility medical equipment.
- Perform environmental maintenance duties and assist in maintaining inventory levels in sterile processing, the operating room, and equipment storage areas.
- Verify that equipment functions properly; requisition for equipment maintenance, repair, or replacement; and remove defective equipment.
- Communicate effectively.
- Promote and ensure patient safety in performance of all responsibilities.
- Other duties as assigned by management.
Requirements:
- High school graduate or GED and graduate of an approved Sterile Processing Technician Program or on-the-job training in a hospital-based training program.
- Prefer 3-6 months of related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. Complete certification within 6 months from hire.
