    DEPARTMENT:   ENROLLMENT MANAGEMENT – UNDERGRADUATE ADMISSION

     

    JOB TITLE:  ADMISSION COUNSELOR  

      

    REPORTS TO: Associate Director of Admission 

     

    CAMPUS:  Queens 

     

    JOB SUMMARY:  

    Reporting to the Associate Director of Admission, the Admission Counselor position will assist in the development and execution of an effective recruitment strategy and strategic plan in order to meet undergraduate student enrollment goals. 

     

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 

    • Research, develop and execute a full recruitment schedule, including high school visits and college fairs, as well as recruitment events within a given territory. Provide recruitment reports and updates as necessary. 
    • Cultivate strong working relationships with guidance and college counselors within given recruitment territory.  
    • Review undergraduate admission applications in a timely manner, consistent with departmental policies.  
    • Assist with the daily operations of the Office of Admission through daily admission presentations, interviews, on and off campus admission events including, but not limited to Open Houses and Accepted Student Days, as well as email, online chats and call campaigns. 
    • Other duties as assigned.

     

     

    COMPETENCIES 

    • A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent is required. 
    • A valid driver’s license is required. 
    • Relevant experience in admission, enrollment management, or higher education is preferred.  
    • Excellent analytical, communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills required. 
    • Understanding of discretion related to handling confidential information is required. 
    • Flexibility to work occasional evenings, mornings, and weekends is required. 
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Technolutions Slate, and Ellucian Banner is preferred. 
    • Ability to multi-task and manage multiple priorities with short notice and changing deadlines is preferred.

     

     

    WORK ENVIRONMENT 

    This job operates in a professional office environment and routinely uses standard office equipment such as personal computers, printers, etc. 

     

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS 

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; move about; sit; to carry work and use controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; communicate. The employee must occasionally lift or move up to 25 lbs. Specific vision abilities required by the employee include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.  

     

    POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK 

    This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Thursday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Friday 8:30am-3:00pm.  Occasional early morning, night, and weekend hours required for recruitment and events.  

     

    TRAVEL 

    This position requires extensive periods of travel throughout the traditional undergraduate recruitment seasons. Travel may be both domestic and international, and overnight travel may be required. 

     

    REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:  

    • A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent is required.

     

     

    PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: 

    • Experience in admission or higher education is preferred.

     

     

    ADDITIONAL ELIGIBILITY QUALIFICATIONS  

    • A valid driver’s license is required.

  • Qualifications

    REQUIRED SKILLS:

     

    • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required. CPA or MBA preferred
    • Must be highly proficient and adept with financial systems and software- in particular Excel, Business Objects, SAP, and Essbase
    • 12+ years of management experience with emphasis on operational accounting
    • Proven leadership, communication, financial analysis and team building skills
    • Ability to develop high levels of credibility and forge solid and positive professional relationships with subordinates, peers, and upper management
    • Able to communicate effectively, both verbally as well as through multiple forms of media
    • Ability to handle complex financial modeling across multiple projects
    • Self-starter with excellent organizational and time management skills to manage multiple projects concurrently
    • Ability to interact with and influence multiple levels of personnel across various functions
    • Some travel required to visit locations
