    POSITION SUMMARY

    Provide the necessary Prototype Engineering skills and leadership to the Engineering and Sales departments to achieve optimal levels of safety, quality, productivity and delivery to assure internal and external customer satisfaction.

    SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES

    Intermediate to advanced level position where colleague has reached competency in the discipline.  Understands and applies concepts.  Performs varied and more complex tasks, using independent judgment with minimum supervision.  Makes decisions within broad parameters.  May mentor less experienced colleagues.

    • Support the Company’s mission, vision, values and goals in performance of daily activities. • Provide key input into the development of departmental strategic goals along with identifying key measurable to support the departmental goals. • Responsible for providing all prototype build coordination. • Develops prototypes with production tooling, fixtures and designs. • Manage and coordinate all GPIRS orders and prototype builds. • Required to support all prototype builds at the plant to ensure parts are built with proper pedigree, quality, quantity and packaged to proper customer requirements. • Manage prototype build source, maintain prototype timing, ensure quality aspects are checked, validated and documented, ensure proper part tagging, containerization and ship to locations have been validated. • Measures quality, product conformity with plans and manufacturability of model. • Support vehicle builds when both production and prototype parts are coordinated. • Review parts designs for reliability, availability and quality standards. • Follow assemblies to ensure fit, form and function is satisfied. • Coordinate parts for PCF build requirements, ensure parts meet proper Blue and Scribe requirements and that parts are packaged, identified and shipped per customer requirements. • Works with purchasing and vendors in cross-functional project completion. • Manages budget, project schedule, milestones and deliverables. • Assist and/or participate in root cause analysis and team problem solving activities (ex. 8D reports, department meetings, etc.). • Responsible for adhering to all internal and OSHA required safety procedures in performing daily work activities. • Maintain high standards of housekeeping throughout the work area. • Maintain a positive working relationship with all levels of the organization. • Assures compliance with federal, state, local and corporate policies, regulations and laws. • Adherence to all company policies and procedures (ex. Quality Policy Manual, Colleague Handbook, Level II Procedures etc.)

    RELATIONSHIPS/CONTACTS

    Reports to the Prototype Manager or a Sr. Program Manager.  Interfaces on a frequent basis with customers, suppliers, purchasing, finance, quality, materials, engineering and the plant leadership.  Interfaces on an as needed basis with HR and IT.

    LEADERSHIP/SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Ability to identify, select, train and coach engineering talent. • Provides model behavior to demonstrate corporate values.

      MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or related field preferred.  Masters degree preferred. • Minimum of three (3) years experience. • Experience with model shops, tooling design and fixture creation. • Excellent organizational, analytical and communication skills. • Ability to present technical information to non-technical audiences. • Ability to work in a fast paced environment. • Proven leadership ability and excellent interpersonal skills. • Ability to work well with others in a team environment. • Proficient in Microsoft Office software. • Ability to read and write in English and perform mathematical calculations.

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS, WORK ENVIRONMENT AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS

    Duties include but are not limited to: stand, walk, twist, bend, lift, see, talk and hear.  Frequent travel to company plants, customer and vendor sites.  Frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts, vibration and hazardous materials.
